Grand railway stations
Post some grand railway (not subway) stations in your city!
SINGAPORE:
Tanjong Pagar Railway Station, also called Keppel Railway Station.
It is the terminal station and the southernmost railway station in continental Asia. Built in 1932 to replace a smaller station at Tank Road. The railway links Singapore to Malaysia, and to the rest of the world.
It is in a blended style of Art Deco and Neo Classical.
The entrance
4 statues in same blended style representing Agriculture, Commerce, Transport and Industry.
The letters FMSR on shields are repeated 3 times. 1 row outside above the statues and two rows inside the lobby dome. FMSR stands for Federated Malay States Railway, the operator. Now it is called Keratapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB). It is the Malaysian national rail operator.
One of two counter booths in the lobby.
One group of 6 groups of 3 mural panels on the sides of the dome. They depict the commerce activities of that era in South East Asia.
The long platform, could accomodate the longest mail trains at that time.
Art Deco patterns at platform roof edges.
