^^I take back my words about this place being overrated. It's actually on point, Sandton-esque in fact.

Mall of Egypt is Finally Opening on March 2nd and It Has the Country's First Ever Indoor Snow Park - LINK

Majid Al Futtaim gears up to launch its latest venture, Mall of Egypt on March 2nd in 6th of October city on Al Wahat Road. The mall is a mammoth 6.3 EGP billion project that will redefine the way you spend your leisure time - scratch that, it’s going to make you want to apply for early retirement.

Spanning 400,000 square meters, 165,000 of which are dedicated to shopping, the two-story complex will also house the country’s first VOX movie theatres as well as an indoor snow park and ski slope at Ski Egypt. The VOX Cinemas will be home to a whopping 21 screens, including 4DX technology, which essentially means your viewing experience is incredibly enhanced with effects such as moving seats, wind, rain fog, lights, and scents. Going to the movies will literally never be the same again. And we can't know for sure but if Ski Dubai is anything to go by, we can expect penguins any day now...

In addition, it will feature the country’s very first branch of popular edutainment centre franchise Little Explorers and a Magic Planet amusement arcade - Generation 2.0 no less, the very latest version of it. Mall of Egypt will also come complete with a Carrefour hypermarket so you never ever have to run out of cat food, as well as 6,500 parking spaces so you'll always find a place to park your car while you shop for your cat food. Because Whiskers needs his nomnom.

The company already has a huge portfolio in Egypt as well. They own all Citycentre malls, Cairo Festival City, IKEA, Carrefour and now this mall. Egypt is home to 10 Carrefour hypermarkets and 20 supermarkets operated by Majid Al Futtaim, the second highest number of branches in the Middle East and Africa (after the U.A.E.) where they have exclusive franchise rights.

^^ in which city is the mall? And i don't understand that 6th of october part
6th of October is a city in the Giza governorate, part of Greater Cairo. It's not in the city of Cairo though, just like Cairo Festival City is in New Cairo and not Cairo. Mall of Arabia is also in 6th of October. It can be a bit confusing but Greater Cairo consists of a blob of cities comprised of Giza, Cairo, Helwan, Shubra El Kheima, four separate cities, and on the outskirts of that blob you have cities like 6th of October, New Cairo, Obour, Badr etc. that are sort of like suburbs. 6th of October is on the western side of the Nile, on the outskirts of Giza, whereas New Cairo is on the eastern side on the outskirts of Cairo.

Outside of SA, Nairobi has the best malls in SSA.

Malls are viable in SSA because of lack of urban planning and income inequality. The future looks more like Century City near Cape Town and Melrose Arch in Jhb for most countries with multi-use facilities: residential, office, shopping and sports clubs.

And it's open. People are complaining that most of the stores haven't committed to the opening date though, which is disappointing. Would have been better if they postponed it until everything is ready.
