http://www.nation.co.ke/business/Mombasa-set-to-host-2015-World-Congress/-/996/2077130/-/n633a/-/index.html

Mombasa county tourism executive secretary Anthony Njaramba has welcomed a decision to host the 2015 World Congress.

He said the county is not only endowed with tourist attractions but also boasts of improved security.

“Note that 2015 is a year many tourism lovers will want to visit Mombasa. If you miss out, it will be a great loss to you,” Mr Njaramba said.

He was speaking on Friday at a press conference that preceded a gala night held at Serena Hotel to celebrate the Skal International winning bid.

Kenya’s bid was pushed by Skal International, the world’s largest travel and tourism organization with over 17,000 senior travel and tourism executives.

Voted overwhelmingly

The World Congress held in New York voted overwhelmingly to stand with Kenya on the backdrop of the terrorism attack at Westgate shopping mall, Nairobi.

The organizing chairman of the Kenyan bid, Mr Tony Clegg-Butt, noted that terrorism was not just a Kenyan problem but a global one.
The country won by two-thirds majority to host the event that will run for five days in November 2015.

The country won against competitive bids by Italy, Turkey, Norway, Argentina and Brazil.

Next year’s World Congress will take place in Mexico.
A good tourism booster i now hope they can fast track the construction of the 5,000 seating conference hotel. That will surely might be able to host the event.

Way to go MSA... this is big!!! I guess we still have it afterall - even post Westgate. Imagine what it would be like if security was better and corruption was extinct.... These are pretty serious competitors. (Italy, Turkey, Norway, Argentina and Brazil).
