Morocco's Maroc Telecom acquires 51% stake in Mali's Sotelma
Bamako - Morocco's telecoms operator Maroc Telecom has acquired 51% of Malian state-owned telecommunications company Sotelma, for € 275 million.

The agreement of this deal was signed on Tuesday in Bamako by the managing director of Maroc Telecom, Abdeslam Ahizoune, Malian minister of communication and new technologies in charge of privatisation, Diarra Mariam Plantie Diallo, and Malian minister of economy and finance Sanoussi Touré.

Maroc Telecom is present in other African countries, namely Mauritania, Bukina Faso and Gabon.

Ahizoune said, during the signing ceremony, that Maroc Telecom will endeavour to make Sotelma a reference operator at regional level.

He stressed that the success of this operation attests to the two countries' will to consolidate the bilateral economic co-operation, adding that the Moroccan company will enable Sotelma to learn from its accumulated expertise.

The signing ceremony was attended by Mali's president Amadou Toumani Toure, the prime minister Modibo Sidibé, members of the Malian government, and Morocco's ambassador to Mali.

Ahizoune was received by president Amadou Toumani Toure.
