Ilya Gerkus: "we are Working on a pre-design solution for the reconstruction of the stadium"

General Director of "Locomotive" Ilya Herkus said that the arena railroad awaits renovation.

- When will the stadium be rebuilt?

- It is very difficult to answer this question. Now we are working on pre-design solutions. When will they be ready? Stayed about a month and a half. We will go to the Board of Directors and the management of Russian Railways and present different options. Then we will have a rough understanding of when and what we will do with our stadium. on 17 August 1966, the Lokomotiv stadium was opened, which was built on the site of the Stalinist stadium, which had been operating since 1935. The new stadium could accommodate about 30 thousand spectators.

In the opening match Lokomotiv took the future champion-Dynamo Kyiv, which in the 1966 season took first place with a margin of nine points from the nearest pursuer. "Railwaymen" lost 0: 3, conceding three goals in the second half.

Lokomotiv were a home arena not only for our team. Russian clubs played European Cup matches at the stadium, as well as the Russian national team.

In 2000, the stadium was closed. Two years later, a new arena was built in its place, where Lokomotiv are still playing.

Each corner of this stadium will have two pylons (one supporting the roof covering the existing stands, and one covering the new retractable roof). I guess it was probably impractical to use just one pylon for both such roofs on each corner.

I wonder if these upgrades will result in the Lokomotiv Stadium starting to host sporting events usually held in indoor arenas (even just occasionally), even though Moscow already has that Olimpiysky Arena and that new CSKA 18,000 Arena.

Is this really needed? Think it's just to show power and money lol... a lot of new stadiums in russia after WC, this still kinda new and usable; no need for the renovation yet.

Maybe not.... but it's not a bad idea to extend the roof
