Moving to Queens. Am I no longer cool?

By the end of this month I'll be hanging the hat on my swanky, sexy Manhattan lifestyle.

(Ahhh, the good times--all those hours sitting on my ass watching TV)

That's right, people. I'm moving to Forest Hills, Queens! I'll be a short walk from the 71st/Continental E train stop.

But the question plagues my mind. Is it over? Has the dream ended?

Am I no longer cool because of this? PLEASE HELP!

doesn't matter, any of the 4 boros (not staten) is cool
outter boroughs? ewww

haha

I have some friends in Astoria and it they can take the N or W train and be in midtown in just a few minutes, Id move there. I know Forest Hills is quite a bit further out though, right?
You're walking distance from a station, you're still cool.
 You will still be cool. To me living in Queens sounds more exciting than living in some other American cities. ;) You are still in cool NYC.
Queens is SO cool, do you know how many rappers come from Queens?
If I live in Queens, then it's definitely cool :p.

But in all seriousness Forest Hills is really nice, and Queens in general is pretty cool.
Urban, you're always cool. Always were. And always will be. But sadly not as cool as you'd be in, let's say, Lincoln Park, Bucktown, Old Town, Hyde Park, or River North (or even in some Queens-like place like West Rogers Park), but still very cool!:)

just kidding, of course...you did find the two right cities to love and you'd be cool in either.

didn't you just move to the UWS from chicago a year ago or something?

why the sudden move?
I am sorry that this had to happen, but it could have been worse. I still think that you got a good deal in Queens, especially since it's by a major subway hub like Forest Hills-71st Ave, which gets the E, F, R, V, and sometimes the G trains. If you saw my threads about Forest Hills and Forest Hills Gardens in the Cityscapes section, you will see that it is a good neighborhood. Just be glad that you didn't move to a neighborhood in that borough where you would either have to drive or take a bus just to get the nearest subway station or where there is the LIRR. I too would like to live in Manhattan, but with the high rents and property, I will never get to on my income.

Well am in the Bronx which is even worst...so i guess that you are cooler than me atleast!
You're even cooler Now! I want to move into the forest hills area myself. Its the best of both worlds (urban-suburban) Besides, you have plenty around the austin st. area to remind you of manhattan. 15 minutes into the city via LIRR and you're good!

^ New York and Chicago both do it for me, that's for sure. I just LOVE the feel of these two places. Different, but there's something they have in common, other than just highrises. I'll never be able to touch on quite what it is. Ahh, whatever..

^ From Washington DC. I haven't lived in Chicago since 2002.

Everybody in DC has such a hard on for New York that I just had to come and experience it for myself

From my few trips to Forest Hills, I absolutely loved the neighborhood. Very difficult to find a decent apartment, though. Realtors always try to steer you to Kew Gardens because they just don't have anything in Forest Hills. Luckily I got off the beaten path and found something on my own, and guess what? I'll be paying more for my apartment in FH than the one I currently reside in in Manhattan.

I'm leaving the big, bad island not for economic reasons, but simply because my commute was just SO PAINFULLY long.

Explain please.
uuh, staten island is wack... what are you gonna do there, watch a baby bombers (SI Yankees) game??
i guess the verrazano bridge is pretty cool though...
