A new hotel aimed at a younger market is set to be built in the grounds of the National Exhibition Centre complex in Solihull.

Dutch group Vastint Hospitality has unveiled plans to open its latest UK hotel close to the centre's main entrance and Pendigo Lake.

The proposed development will be eight storeys tall and have 224 bedrooms along with a bar, gym and library.

The application site, in Perimeter Road, is currently used as car park but some of this will be reconfigured to accommodate the new hotel however its guests will have to use other, existing car parks on the campus.

Amsterdam-based Vastint Hospitality was established in January 2012 to develop and invest in hotels and student properties across Europe.

It is partnering with Norwegian outfit Belvar, a hotel management company currently operating Marriott hotels under a franchise agreement.

The proposed new development at the NEC would be a 'Moxy' hotel which Marriott launched in 2013 in partnership with Swedish furniture giant Ikea in a bid to capture the attention of millennial travellers and a more youthful market.

It is likely to appeal to visitors attending concerts at the Genting Arena and some of the events at the NEC rather than the traditional corporate exhibition market.

If given the green light by borough planners, it will go into battle with several incumbent hotels on the campus including Crowne Plaza, Hilton and Genting Hotel at Resorts World.

Vastint Hospitality's first UK hotel opened at Aberdeen Airport last year, also a Moxy brand, and it also has plans to open in several other locations across the UK such as Bristol, Chester and Southampton.

Plot is on a rather underused car-park near the entrance and sits adjacent to Resorts World. Moxy boxy. The renders don't really inspire much although it's too early to judge. I don't think the landscape will look anything like that. I mean, where's the path leading into the hotel (?)

Should follow MOXY Vienna's example

The only thing I don't like is the word Moxy. Sounds like Poxy.

Great to see another hotel pop up.

Moxy are a Marriott brand aimed at 'millenials' and are furnished by IKEA.

I do like the Vienna one better especially the curved porch parts. Would be a great addition to the design.

Looks exactly as I'd expect an NEC development to look. Is what it is, I suppose. Good news for the area.
No objections for this really. HS2 Ltd have even advised this hotel should come forward a.s.a.p (prior to a drainage system doc being submitted) ahead of HS2 before it too moves towards construction so to avoid any clashes in the area. Obvious really but the good news is this is likely to rise, maybe this year. Should be approved tonight

I think the NEC and it's surrounds should be used as a blank canvas to go a bit more experimental with architecture. The city centre needs buildings to compliment each other and have considerations for it neighbours.

Here though, the neighbours are huge square massive sheds, there's nothing to lose. The planning teams should be pushing for some experimental Guggenheim style designs using new materials.

I like the Interserve HQ. 'In the flesh' it's actually quite impressive.
^^ I like it too, it’s a business park office it is what it is and could have just been a bland bwarehouse box with windows to be honest but just pointing out general conception on here seems to be its a massive let down
From a distance it looks rather meh!

But closer up and I have to say I am impressed with the detail. Could have been a little taller perhaps, but it has won me over for all that.
Nice Hotel chain and adds variety from the usual suspects.

Aberdeen Moxy stands out from the crowd of Premier Inn, Crown Plaza etc

The construction of a new hotel on the NEC campus in Solihull will begin in June 2018, the entertainment group has announced.

Dutch-based developers, Vastint Hospitality secured planning permission earlier this year from Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council for Marriott International Moxy Hotel.

The hotel, built over eight floors and with 224 bedrooms, is due to open in mid-2019. It will be constructed quicker using a technique that involves modular cross-laminated timber pods being transported from Italy in sections and assembled on site.
