The oldest composite textile mill in the country - the Empress Mills founded by Sir Jamsetji Tata in the heart of Nagpur has been sold by the Maharashtra State Textile Corporation (MSTC) to the Tayal family-promoted KSL & Industries.

The 35-acre mill complex, on the embankment of Gandhi Sagar Lake, to be rechristened ‘Empress City' will now host an IT Park, a five-star hotel, a 3 lakh sq ft mall and a series of upmarket residential towers.

The KSL Group bagged the closed mill for Rs 35 crore at a competitive auction with 10 bidders that included two Nagpur-based builders and a few Mumbai developers, including Kalpataru Overseas. However, the mill comes with 10,500 workers and their severance package has cost the Tayals an additional Rs 55 crore.

“Stamp duty and other interest costs has made the Empress Mills a Rs 100-crore property, but we were lucky to ‘book’ it before the real estate began shooting up,” PK Tayal told ET. “Today, it is worth over Rs 500 crore,” he claimed.

Politics of Vengence by blocking projects from another government because you disagree with them is going to be the end of MH's industrial supremacy in India. We are already seeing important projects in MH being stalled :
MAHSR
Mumbai Metro
Pune Airport
Nagpur Airport
Ajni IMS
SAI in Nagpur
to name a few. We need DF or politicians like him back at the helm in Mumbai
That oil refinery is also off now, Thackeray kmkb.

Is there any deadline about when the building will finish construction? It is at quite a good location with Metro station less than half a kilometre away. Hopefully some well paying jobs come up there.

Agreed. I think DLF and SPInfocity were planned to be proper IT parks in MIHAN, but that failed completely. We need just one proper IT park to kick it off in Nagpur
Separate Vidarbha is the only option for faster development

Yes ,one proper IT/Business Park presence may boost economical growth of Nagpur City.

Much needed it would help decentralize MH and also give Pune some Decongestion, plus with upcoming Broad Gauge Metro it would help neighboring cities
Only issue is that those neighboring cities need good infra too

Good news: Nagpur’s Lendi, Naik Talao to be rejuvenated

Nagpur: In good news for environmentalists, Lendi and Naik Talao in Nagpur, which are almost became non-existent due to rampant pollution and encroachments, are going to get a new lease of life as rejuvenation project worth Rs 27.71 crore has been approved by the State Government under Atal Mission For Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation 2.0 (AMRUT), according to media reports.

The Central Government had given in-principle approval to fund rejuvenation of two water bodies — Lendi Talao and Naik Talao under AMRUT 2.0. The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) had submitted a Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the two lakes to Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran (MJP), an agency appointed by the state for technical scrutiny, and obtained sanction. According to reports, the state-level technical committee for AMRUT 2.0 met a day ago, during which the NMC team led by Municipal Commissioner Radhakrishnan B, Superintending Engineer Manoj Talewar and others gave presentation on the two projects and proposed to undertake rejuvenation works in 6.42 acres (22.53%) of total 28.5 acres area of Lendi Talao in the DPR.

Accordingly, the committee reportedly cleared the proposal. The committee has approved Rs14.31 crore funds for the project. A few years ago, the NMC had submitted a DPR with the state seeking funds for rejuvenation of the Lendi Talao under the State Lakes Conservation Plan (SLCP). But the state did not approve the project and directed the NMC to remove encroachments from the waterbody first

After the NMC sought possession of Lendi Talao for rejuvenation, the state handed over the entire 28.5 acres area to the civic body on June 13, 2018. During the hand over, the district administration had restricted division, distribution or lease of the land to anyone for any other purpose. In the same meeting, the committee also approved rejuvenation of Naik Talao, which is situated downstream of Lendi Talao. The project has been planned in 7.23 acres area. The committee has approved Rs 13.5 crore for the purpose. Now, the state will submit both the projects to the Centre which will sanction funds under AMRUT 2.0.

The NMC has also planned rejuvenation of Police Line Takli Lake in West Nagpur and Binaki-Mangalwari Lake in North Nagpur under AMRUT 2.0. DPR of the two water bodies is being prepared. All four water bodies are facing threat of destruction due to encroachments, accumulation of silt, lack of maintenance etc.

Till now, the NMC has executed rejuvenation works in Sonegaon, Gandhisagar and Pandhrabodi lakes with the help of funds sanctioned by the state

Work on 3rd, 4th Nagpur-Itarsi, Nagpur-Wardha rly lines to gain pace

Nagpur: The proposed works for third and fourth lines between Nagpur-Itarsi and Nagpur-Wardha are set to gain momentum as the general manager (GM) of Central Railway, Anil Kumar Lahoti, has stressed on infrastructural development and operational efficiency. Lahoti was in the city on November 25.

During inspection of the Nagpur-Itarsi line, the GM urged the senior railway officials to wrap up the pending work of different departments.

According to railway sources, the third line between Nagpur-Itarsi is bidirectional while the final location survey has been ordered for detailed project report of the fourth line.

Sources stated the third and fourth lines would help improve track maintenance while now there least scope for any long blocks on them as it would affect the traffic. The additional lines would also help increase the frequency and number of trains.

“The tender for Nagpur-Teegaon section (112 km) has been awarded and the work has started,” said a source added that Katol - Kohli (25 km) section was completed and commissioned in March 2022. “Narkhed-Kalambha (15.05km) section was completed in June 22 while Kalambha -Katol (10km) was commissioned on November 12," said the official.

The engineering procurement and construction (EPC) tender for Chichonda-Maramjhiri (70 km), worth Rs508 crore, was awarded in August this year. The EPC tender for Dhodramohar-Dharakoh section (38km) has been planned. “The complete section is expected to be commissioned in March 2025,” said the source adding 54 hectares of land too has been acquired.

On Nagpur-Wardha section, Sindi-Butibori (19km) third line was commissioned in December 2019 while the fourth line in December 2020. The target is to commission the third and fourth lines between Butibori-Khapri (15km) in December this year.

“The third and fourth lines between Sindi-Seloo (18km), Seloo Road-Wardha (14km) and Nagpur-Khapri (14km) are expected to be commissioned in 2023-24,” said a source adding the entire section would be completed in March 2024.

“The work would help reduce congestion on the third and fourth lines and cut delays in the running time,” said an official.

Ajni 12K HP depot to maintain 250 locomotives every year soon

Nagpur: The 12,000 horse power (HP) maintenance depot at Ajni would be able to cater to 250 locomotives annually over the next two years. The depot is currently being developed and managed jointly by the ministry of railways, and private company Alstom, which manufactures the high powered modern locomotives. After Saharanpur, Ajni depot is being developed as one of the most comprehensive maintenance units for 12,000 HP locomotives in the country. The depot, spread across 17 acre, is currently managing the maintenance work of 26 locomotives. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had inaugurated the depot amid much fanfare. Official sources in Central Railway (CR) said the Ajni depot would attend to 50 locomotives by March this year. “In 2023-24, the Ajni depot would be able to accommodate 100 more locomotives, and additional 100 by 2024-25,” said the official, adding daily work is supervised by senior officials under Divisional Railway Manager, Nagpur division, Richa Khare. “In the past, the area was a crime prone spot and remained desolate, which people avoided. Now, it has become a thriving unit where many locals are employed too,” said the railway official. Sources said the depot, built on 8,000 sq m, has 2km track inside it, and also houses a warehouse measuring 1,777 sq m. The other key features of the Ajni depot are a modern bogie washing plant, a paint shop, overhead cranes, special tools and fixtures, and organized store for the locomotives.

Apart from it’s mechanical efficiency, the authorities have also developed the unit in a sustainable manner, and has now ‘zero discharge’ status with a full-fledged effluent treatment plant and a sewage treatment plant. “The roof insulation is done in such a manner that the interior temperature is lower by two to four degrees than outside. The natural light panels help to reduce dependency on electrical supply,” said a railway source
