:banana:very nice thank you for that notification...but it would be better off still for a light railwy system but that still a step to curb traffic menace in the city..
I was initially skeptical about the ability of the BRT to eliminate the traffic congestion in Nairobi, but after reading the Mass Transit System plan developed by the county, i realised that the BRT is just one of the pieces of the puzzle. This combined with a Light Railway System, a Monorail, and the Commuter Rail, will go along way in easing the traffic problem.

Secondly, this could be what will sound a death knell to the Matatu menace. At 30 kshs fare, dedicated lanes and efficient service, these buses will become very popular fast.

I just hope that the infrastructure for these buses will be speedily put up.

PS: I really hope that Ngong Road will be added to the routes for that BRT system.

oh no! not a monorail. I hope that is dropped. But BRT and Light rail can hopefully smash the matatu stranglehold
A good first step. With an eventual fleet of about 2,000 buses, the county should also look at introducing environment-friendly fuels. Most public transport in India uses CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) and it cheaper that traditional petrol/diesel. We need to think light years ahead...
Hii ni habari njema

Although people will use it for whatever reason

Hebu matumaini kwa bora
Will all of Nairobi's planned BRT routes have segregated lanes for the buses themselves?

The lanes will not be separated.I guess what will happen is the County will start marking dedicated bus lanes as " bus only".This maybe done on roads which have sufficient number of lanes for other motorists to use.I'm thinking For example Mombasa Road's outer lane will be a dedicated bus only lane all the way to westlands roundabout and beyond. The same goes for thika road. The big question is Ofcourse how the county plans to keep matatus and other motorists out of these lanes.Probably heavy policing will be done.CCTV maybe used to monitor compliance.

i think it will be buses and the ones who worked in the matatau sector would be trained on how to use the buses the only psv are the taxi which to me is very ok cause i have a very big feud with the matatu guys the have scratched my car more than two occassions and when they knock me they run away..i hate them with all my strength..but it is a good project but not the best..light railway system is the way to go for Nairobi peeps and i hope it really commences on June 2014..i dont to hear sijui oooh tendering mbaya.....oooh no money oooooooh opposition from matatu sector....oooh politics..it should have been done by yesterday i dont to see it now postponed to 2016 or something...it a high time we do projects in time.

My thoughts exactly. Though its not going to be sustainable.
Long before I knew what BRT are, there was a proposal to build interchanges in ruiru, kikuyu, mlolongo where matatus from counties would terminate their journey. From these terminals high capacity vehicles would take people in the city. An interchange maybe at muthurwa so we do not have buses parked in the street as they wait their turn will do. P

I know the info about this new project are still sketchy, but I sincerely hope they do not implement a cosmetic BRT. As we have seen with garbage collection trucks Kidero is the kind that like to cut corners! In the immediate term low capacity vehicles should be banished from city centre.
The good news just keeps coming! If the outcome of the BRT puts matatus out of business, it would be a big accomplishment. Now if only it could get done (watch the matatu guys take to the streets!)
Isn't 1 billion shillings inadequate for this project?

thats what i thought off...there is no real full statement about the project
Now for the bus lane demarcation. Buses look better than the battered Isuzus used in Citi hoppa/KBS fleets.
I hope VDL wins the tender.

But i see Foton winning it.... btw why did the interior look so bland it doesn't even say public transport unless the bus in question will be going to a school or government ministry.
