Brazilians to invest in county

Daily Nation

The Narok County government has partnered with 50 Brazilian companies in a programme that will see multi-billion-shilling factories built in the region.

Governor Samuel ole Tunai who has returned from a tour of Brazil, said his government will offer the Brazilian investors land to put up factories.
The foreigners will also be linked to numerous landowners in the county, he added.

“Some of the investors have expressed interest in setting up a third sugar cane factory in Transmara.

Another team has pledged to build a meat processing factory. The factory will process various meat products,” said Mr Tunai.

Speaking at a media briefing at his office, the governor said they visited several cities in Brazil, where they saw opportunities for collaboration in various areas, including waste management.

He said there was a possibility of twinning towns in Narok County with several willing Brazilian cities.

“We held meetings with the Rio de Janeiro governor on issues such as city management, planning and operations.

The meetings were attended by leading industrialists and investors,” said Mr Tunai.

Other important places they toured include a factory that produces animal feeds and food processing industries.

They held discussions with the management of a leading meat processing factory, with a possibility of setting up a similar plant in Narok.

If the investment opportunities are exploited, 4,000 youths will be employed in the next financial year.
Strategic plan for Narok Town

The Star

The Narok county government has drawn a final map to plan urban centres. Lands executive member Morgan Siloma said the plan will bring order and help in service delivery. "This will attract sustainable investments for enhanced revenue collection, growth and development of the entire county," he said.

“This will be a basis for preparation of environmental management plans, valuation for property taxation, provision of transportation, physical and social infrastructure,” Siloma said.

Siloma said the plan will help in future growth and development of Narok town and other urban centres in the county....

^^true but i mean 4 business not tourism
Your original statement is prejudiced and judgmental. Not good, there are people who call that place home and to whom it's the best place on earth to do business. So which place is not weird for you? Another person will also find your choice weird too.

They are talking about factories. Narok might be offering cheap land compared to other counties.
Being "in the middle of no where" might result in less regulations too.

With the kind of flooding that happens in Narok town, investing in a dam makes perfect sense

Plans are afoot to renovate and transform Narok Stadium into international standards and be the best sporting infrastructure in Narok County.

Already, Narok County government has allocated Sh300 million for the works.

The county government aims at ensuring the facility measures to the required international standards before focusing on a facelift to other infrastructures within the region.

Narok County Minister for Education, Youth, Children, Sports, Culture and Social Services Ezekiel Rono said the stadium will standout as a landmark facility because it is their main sports centre. The money has been factored in the 2012/2013 financial year.

“The funds allocated to the project is enough for its full completion,” he said.

The project will take one and half years to complete. Work at the facility started last year with erection of a stone fence around the stadium. There is also a pavilion for dignitaries and then later they will construct the main administration block.

The stands are to be rebuilt all around the stadium with the football pitch properly marked out. There will also be new goal posts installed to replace the current rusty poles.

The facility enjoys proximity to the world famous Maasai Mara Game Reserve and the county government wants to expoit it by making it a first stop shop in promoting sports tourism.

“Thereafter, we look into possibilities of having another stadium in Trans Mara Sub County,” said Rono.

David Lekuta Rudisha, who is the 800 metres Olympic champion, is putting up a Sh300 million sports complex on an 11acre piece of land in his native Trans Mara town, which has brought excitement among young runners.

To date, most competitions in Narok County are held in school grounds and this explains why the county government needs to hurry up the completion of the Narok Stadium.
Sounds like a great venture i wish we had residents from Narok who can update us with pictures.

MPS ALLOCATE
SH1bN TO
PAVE NAROK-
MAASAI MARA
ROAD

The neglected Narok-Maasai Mara
Road will be paved with bitumen at
a cost of Sh1 billion in what is set to
raise the profile of the premium
wildlife reserve.
The parliamentary Budget committee
allocated the funds for the fiscal
year starting July. The venture is set
to boost the image of the Maasai
Mara National Reserve that is
globally recognised for the epic
migration of thousands of
wildebeests from the Serengeti in
Tanzania across the crocodile
infested Mara River.
The peak of the natural phenomenon
will run from this month to July.
Despite the Mara raking in about
Sh3 billion per year, the 85km road
to the park has been neglected for
long. The poor state has affected
the competitiveness of the Mara
since a number of visitors are forced
to fly to the area, an expensive
option.
The Kenya Tourists Drivers and
Guides Association vice chair Andrew
Mungatana welcomed the planned
construction.
“The move is long overdue and we
hope the State will walk the talk this
time round because they have been
promising to repair the road for
years,” he told the Business Daily .
This comes at a time when the
tourism sector has taken a beating
following the issuance of travel
advisories by the UK, US and
Australia due to terror attacks.
Last year, the Mara was classified as
the best safari park in Africa by CNN
Travel.
During a recent visit to the area,
Deputy President William Ruto
expressed commitment to working
with Narok County to ensure
completion of the road.
“We want to invest in the tourism
sector by providing the funding and
all the support to make it possible
to access the park with ease,” he
said.
Industry players say they have
witnessed increased bookings ahead
of the wildebeest migration.
“Between now and August, the bed
occupancy in our hotels will be
above 70 per cent,” said Steven
Keriga, an assistant manager at a
Mara hotel.
