Le président de la République, M. Ismaïl Omar Guelleh, a procédé dimanche dernier, sur un site de Balbala, au lancement officiel des travaux de construction de l’édifice censé abriter la bibliothèque et les archives nationales. L’événement y a regroupé d’importantes personnalités. Tout ce beau monde a vibré ensemble au rythme des animations folkloriques et musicales qui ont ponctué cette matinée passée sur le futur site d’accueil de la bibliothèque et des archives nationales non loin du nouveau campus de l’Université de Djibouti, érigé à Balbala. L’assistance a ensuite pris bonne note des propos du chef de l’Etat sur l’intérêt particulier qu’il accorde au succès de ce projet. Son aboutissement devrait contribuer au rayonnement intellectuel et culturel de notre pays. C’était du moins la conviction affichée du président de la République Guelleh. « Après les structures éducatives et universitaires, nous jetons aujourd’hui les bases de notre bibliothèque et nos archives nationales qui abriteront notre héritage socioculturel », a dit le président Guelleh.
Le chef de l’Exécutif djiboutien a souligné que la bibliothèque nationale sera le fleuron de notre culture contemporaine alliant authenticité et modernisme. “Elle servira aussi à promouvoir la lecture et l’amour du livre permettant à nos enfants à se cultiver et à s’épanouir”, a-t-il déclaré en substance. Evoquant les archives nationales, il a affirmé que celles-ci constitueront notre mémoire historique, sociale et politique, et font partie de la bonne gouvernance. Car elles reflètent, a-t-il précisé, une partie de notre culture politique et permettent de retracer l’évolution institutionnelle de notre République. En effet, le libre accès aux archives à celles-ci sera grandement utile aux historiens appelés à effectuer un travail de recherche universitaire et objective sur le passé et le présent de notre pays dans les années à venir. Le président de la République a pris date en donnant le coup d’envoi des travaux d’édification de la bibliothèque et des archives nationales. Lesquelles devraient faciliter l’émergence d’une classe de jeunes écrivains créatifs au service de la diffusion de notre culture à travers la région et le reste du monde comme l’a si bien relevé le chef de l’Etat.
Notons au passage que le projet de construction de la bibliothèque et des archives nationales est entièrement financé par le gouvernement de la République Populaire de Chine. Il s’agit en effet de deux bâtiments qui seront construits sur un même terrain d’une superficie de 30. 000 mètres carrés.
Rappelons enfin que les étagères de la bibliothèque nationale regorgeront de 500. 000 livres ou autres ressources documentaires. Le bâtiment abritant les archives nationales aura une capacité de stockage d’environ 3.000 mètres carrés, exploitable sur une période de 50 ans.
The President of the Republic, Mr. Ismaïl Omar Guelleh, proceeded last Sunday, on a site of Balbala, at the official launch of the construction work of the building supposed to house the library and the national archives. The event brought together important personalities. All this beautiful people vibrated together to the rhythm of the folkloric and musical animations which punctuated this morning spent on the future site of reception of the library and the national archives not far from the new campus of the University of Djibouti, erected in Balbala. The audience then took note of the remarks of the Head of State on the particular interest he gives to the success of this project. Its outcome should contribute to the intellectual and cultural influence of our country. At least that was the declared conviction of the President of the Republic Guelleh. "After the educational and academic structures, today we are laying the foundations for our national library and archives, which will house our socio-cultural heritage," said President Guelleh.
The head of the Djiboutian Executive emphasized that the national library will be the jewel of our contemporary culture combining authenticity and modernism. "It will also serve to promote reading and love of the book that allows our children to cultivate themselves and thrive," he said in substance. Referring to the national archives, he said that these will be our historical, social and political memory, and part of good governance. Because they reflect, he said, a part of our political culture and allow to trace the institutional evolution of our Republic. In fact, the free access to the archives will be of great help to historians called upon to carry out objective and academic research on the past and present of our country in the years to come. The President of the Republic took a date by launching the building work of the library and national archives. Which should facilitate the emergence of a class of young creative writers at the service of the diffusion of our culture across the region and the rest of the world as the Head of State so well noted.
It should be noted in passing that the construction project of the National Library and Archives is entirely financed by the Government of the People's Republic of China. In fact, the two buildings will be built on the same land with an area of 30,000 square meters.
Finally, let's remember that the shelves of the national library will boast 500,000 books or other documentary resources. The building housing the National Archives will have a storage capacity of approximately 3,000 square meters, exploitable over a period of 50 years.
The design is beautiful. Let's hope they stay true to it. One of my pet peeve about the Chines projects in Jabuuti has been the lack of landscaping. The design is beautiful in part because of the landscaping. I'll keep my figures crossed this time.
