I am optimistic about this project, the location is definitely one of the prime areas for Saudi in terms of where people would want to live. They don't want to copy UAE / Dubai directly either, this is more of a futurist, university campus (or Google/Apple campus) type project.

I know it is a little bit early for construction projects but anyways we can share news & developments here about the NEOM project.

The problem is that previous Saudi Arabian megaprojects have generally progressed very slowly or have been cancelled (KAEC, Jeddah Tower, etc). There is unlikely to be any significant movement for at least a few years, judging by this track record, and the actual eventual development will likely be some boring suburban subdivisions, maybe an industrial area and port.

In all honesty, I think there is a lot of buzz for this project, but it will most probably not live up to its potential because the Saudis will never allow a city to be have a social dynamic any different from the rest of the country.

Sure, there are talks to make it an "international city" but realistic it will not be and will very much still function (society and its institutions) as the rest of the kingdom.
