New information about Empire World Towers in Miami?

Do enyone knows the current status of the Empire World Towers of Miami?
It would be great for Miami to have those towers built. I've been looking for updated information, only Emporis.com says they are approved.
Do you know something new?

I don't know that it was ever a truly serious proposal. More like a trial balloon that appeared at the height of the boom a few years back but never advanced beyond renderings into actual nuts and bolts sales. I never even saw an actual sales ad for it (did anyone?)---which even Met3 had going for awhile.

Anyway, EWT is toast. The site itself remains prime-time real estate, however, so stay tuned. Eventually something grand could (and should) rise there.

Maybe someone else here has better info on that, but I think it's fairly safe at this point to put EWT into the "never built" category.

I'd bet something cool WILL rise there someday. In the meantime, root for One Bayfront Plaza. That one has a fighting chance.

.....One Biscayne Plaza.

One Bayfront?
^^Yeah. Fixed it.

Maybe I was hoping One Biscayne Tower would add 50 floors?
Noland, how old is this? I can't find a date anywhere here. This seems a bit old to me.
I remember reading an old thread around the time EWT's drawings were changed to give the buildings a more streamlined appearance. The majority of people commenting on it called the project baloney, a scheme to raise the property value and flip the land. I'll try to dig and find it.

I think Cohen was trying to make a name for himself with this particular project as it was never serious, but hey you never know it ain't over til the fat lady sings and the cranes come down.
huh? what cranes? http://dealbook.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/04/16/2-charged-in-tax-evasion-scheme-involving-hsbc/?src=busln

The fat lady had a fatal heart attack. Whatever will rise there will not be EWT.

Yeah..in the case of EWT I think the fat lady never even penciled in a performance. It was sketchy from the get-go and backed by 'finances' that seemed about as solid as moonbeams and Ouija boards.

Too good a spot for nothing to happen eventually---hopefully something grand---but EWT went DOA a long time ago.

(if the DDA confirms that EWT is DOA does that make this an airport thread?)

I can't change my old avatar because I can't remember the password! I became QuantumX because I got tired of waiting to hear back from an administrator.

I went by Suffolk Construction yesterday to show them my most recent updates on Met2 and so I asked them about Met3. They said the idea of building something there with a foundation that will support a 76-story building is out. I didn't ask them what is supposed to go there then, but I think anything shorter than Met2 would be a waste of prime real estate. Since they haven't been awarded the contract yet, who can really say what will go there at this point. Anyway, as I've said before, I don't think any project is completely dead until something completely different gets built on the site.

I think Met3 has most likely been dead for a couple of years at this point. It's been at least that long since I saw the last new advertisement for a condo in the project.

I don't think a failed project is "announced"---it just fades away. And that's understandable from the developers perspective. I know nobody wants to put Met3 in the 'never built' category but it's getting hard to categorize it as anything else. It's been the better part of a decade at this point and the demand for it would be very hard to find.

Agreed a stripped-down (shorter) building would be a terrible waste of that parcel. It demands something dramatic and notable, and has enough FAA clearance to make it possible.

I've got fingers crossed for OBP, but if it doesn't happen the Met3 site could easily support the same kind of project in the future. The worst thing would to see it be wasted on a small-time building. It's too valuable and prominent for that, long-term.

Yes, I really hope they do not waste what little lots we have to build something really tall, on another stubby building. I don't think they will honestly, but you never know.

Ya I remember you explaining that right when you started the X username. I just forgot what the old picture was, and still is since you can't access it!

Met3 as was originally planned most certainly is dead. The project manager for Met2 even told me that Met3 died with the condo market. I just hope somebody eventually buys the project and reconfigures it into maybe a mixed-use building with a height more appropriate for the site. I'm so used to imagining a 800 feet plus building going there, anything else just doesnt' seem right.
