I found that on Civic Arts website, the same company that might build the kilometer tall skyscraper in Kuwait! I think it looks great the left building reminds a bit of Sea Hawk Hotel in Fukuoka.

The taller structure is to be 48-stories and 535 feet tall and is expected to break ground later this year and is set to open in 2008.

This is going to be built by a Turkish developer: Mehmet Bayraktar.
I know him personally. He is going to invest more than $350 million for this project :)

I like it a lot. It could be taller, because the location is really really good. Anyways 48 floor is good too and the design is very nice

Anyone notice a trend, most of our expensive hotels are always built on islands, mandarin oriental, ritz carlton, now shangri-la and the W....i wished i owned an island...
Where exactly is Island Gardens in relation to the CBD? (for those of us not familiar with the area). Hard to imagine there is that much undeveloped space close to DT.
I like it. And in my opinion Miami really needs new scryscrapers, ofcourse this is not very tall , but it looks great :)

Its on Watson Island which is public land which is why it was never developed and also why the development is contraversal. For many years the island was used as a base of Sea Planes (the ones that take off out of the water). It sits along the MacArthur Causway between Miami and Miami Beach.

The development will go in the big undeveloped space in the lower left of the Island in the middle of the map.

As Dave stated, it will be on the Watson Island, where the Parrot Jungle is

I marked the island on the satellite image:

Wow, that is one spectacular location!
I cannot imagine what that parcel would fetch in the market. Views in every direction. The Shangri-La outfit is top notch. They seem to have garnered the best locations in every city, Vancouver, Toronto, and Miami. Thanks Dave8721 and Anatolia.
