Proposals to redevelop the New Westminster Tower on Albert Embankment including a major reclad and change from office to residential from CLS holdings (who are also behind the Vauxhall Square and Spring Mews developments).

The development render:

Current look of the tower (no idea why in black and white):

I almost prefer what is there now, that reclad is terrible. It makes the tower look very dumpy and squat

i agree for such a site and all they come up with is that?
It would have been preferable to demolish the whole thing and start again. Have never liked the current building, totally uncommanding for such a site and it looks 'provincial' (without offending anyone!). The replacement is weak and no better. But what a view from the penthouse.

Be worth people here actually emailing the links on the site and telling them how poor it is.

If enough people make the same point it generally does have an effect on plans and may make them notch up the quality a bit more.

time to tweet this tomorrow, it's fucking atrocious.

the existing building is "OK"

I actually really prefer what we have now, it has a genuinely nice colour to it.
The old one looks outdated. The new one is forgettable. A lost opportunity.

Appalling design considering its right on the river. If Berkeley homes can employ Fosters and Rogers a few doors down surely CLS can up the design standard.

I would strongly recommend filling in the feedback form saying you will object to this as it might give them a kick up the ass to fix it before it goes in for planning which must be soon.

I'd never really paid much attention to these lesser known buildings, but Christ, London has some truly mediocre towers littering the place.
Me too, they must be able to do better than that
I sent mine too what a shock horror and why does London hate the river ? there are a few missed opportunities along there and the sea Container takes the crown.
Architects and planners seem to go a little crazy in the head it seem's when confronted with the river Thames. For something that is an incredible opportunity hardly any new or proposed buildings really address it well.

Refurbishment of Westminster Tower approved. Office space converted into apartments - we'll probably see more of these projects, given the demand for riverside apartments in London.

At least the offensive nubbin has been taken off the top and the overall height reduced. What a shame in such an amazing location with spectacular views.
It looks like the 'nubbin' is now penthouses? That render looks to have been taken from the roof of the building next door so it does look a bit stumpy. I can't find any more images.
