Ok, since this is almost certainly another supertall I expect that the thread will be moved when more information becomes available, but untill then it shall stay here because the height can't be verified. I do admit that I kinda like this tower, it's going to enhance the west side by being completely different from the glassy towers going up elsewhere in the Hudson Yards. Hopefully better renders will show the cladding in more detail so that I can form a final opinion on this.

New York City’s Midtown West will be experiencing a large makeover over the coming years. Shortly after Hudson Yards broke ground in late 2012, Brookfield Properties initiated the first phase of its 5.4 million-square-foot master plan for Manhattan West on the corner of 33rd Street and 9th Ave. Hovering over Penn Station’s Railroad tracks, an engineering feat will support two 60-story towers that will encompass residential and commercial functions, as well as public and community space.

Yes! Thanks for the updated photo. The fence-propping details are interesting. The view is looking SW towards the High Line's 10th Ave spur.

I am also posting your picture of the work-in-progress that is the wide, truncated pyramid. Your photo (guy on bike, gloomy sky, trash bins, dirty snow) almost makes it look like something other than W31 st, but the ESB gives it away.That is impressive work scaffolding/whatever...

The neighborhood is going through a LOT of changes, so MAYBE by 2020 the right side of this photo will have a residential tower blocking the view of the ESB?

401 West 31st Street indicate the skyscraper will stand 64 stories to its roof, which will rise 702 feet above street level. The building will have 790 units, with a total area of 756,674 square feet, including a retail component measuring 3,438 square feet
Even at a relatively short 702 feet, 401 West 31st Street will become one of the tallest residential buildings in Manhattan, at least temporarily. The current development boom is pushing heights to levels the island has never seen before, and while most of the new towers are in the ultra-skinny and super-luxury class of buildings, Brookfield’s addition will compare to the giants of Far West 42nd Street, rather than the spindles of 57th Street and the Financial District.
The entire project is expected to be completed by 2020.

Was expecting a bit more than that!

Wasn't this the tower which a few weeks ago we were hyping could be another supertall luxury tower?
You're probably thinking of the site directly to the west of here (360 10th Avenue) which has the possibility of going tall - apparently SHoP is the architect there.

I think that there was mention of the smaller size hotel building (which makes no sense for the large scale of the project overall) being remade into a tall hotel-condo tower. Never heard mention of this one getting taller though I still do hope it does get pushed to around 700 feet or so... does seem a bit shorter than we were expecting. If we do get this at 664ft, and maybe no taller than 700 or so in the end I hope the hotel/condo tower possibility occurs.

Yeah. This will be a rental in a very shoddy location. Great design was never expected. This stretch of Ninth Ave is a dump, and this site is choked off from the Yards by the disgusting Dyer Ave and the Lincoln Tunnel.

Yeah. This will be a rental in a very shoddy location. Thus, a great design was never expected. This stretch of Ninth Ave is a dump, and this site is choked off from the Yards by the disgusting Dyer Ave and the spaghetti roadwork associated with the Lincoln Tunnel. Those not from NY should look at the site on Google Maps.

It may not be in a great location, but I would expect when Brookfield is completed with Manhattan West it will look better than dumpy. I'd expect some more development anyway in the area in the coming years.... I certainly don't think what's been rendered is great but it's not bad, just not really anything bold or creative. Look at what the whole HY area was even a few years back... hardly a welcoming sight yet around the periphery the Midtown West has started to grow nicely and will in the not too distant future be the most transformed area of New York.

Aaaah yes you're right!
My bad! Got confused :lol:

But bf, it'll be a dcent filler, and will helpt to bridge the gap between the 'low' rises and the supertalls; adding more depth :cheers:
