New York City Hotels Question

3046 Views 22 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  New Jack City
Hello there this is my first time in the NYC threads and in June i will be in New York City, also for the first time! My question is about hotels, where would some affordable hotel be that isnt too flashy, like 3 star hotels?

i dont want to spend more than 350 dollars per night, there will be 4 of us visiting so what would be some good rates?

I know i may be posting in the wrong area so if a moderator moves it, im terribly sorry.

64 Hotels found in New York on booking.com
Especially since there's 4 of you, I'd rent an apartment.

Nothing beats an apartment, especially since you don't want some fancy 4 or 5 star hotel.
yeah i mean i understand it wont be cheap but i want to try and keep costs low. i would like to try and keep it down around the 350 mark but if i have to go over i want to avoid it.

thanks for that Cosmin :)
what about backpacker places are they worth it?
I have no idea. I'm not a New Yorker...sorry.
Does any New Yorker suggest that backpacker places are worth a stay?

EDIT....thanks for the input...
The YMCA located on the east side of manhattan are not bad for backpacker.
For budget hotel, you can check out this " Hotel QT ", located right in the middle of Time square and Broadway. check it out

If you don't mind share bathroom down the hall 'The Latham' Hotel at 4 east. 28th. St. just off Fifth avenue was pretty reasonable. Paying $1,216.32 for 10 nights worked out OK for me last September.....The rooms are basic with just aircon, TV, Bed, wardrobe and handbasin. My room had a double bed but know other rooms had singles and multiples???? There was a very cheap breakfast a couple of doors away on the corner of 5th Ave...a couple of bucks for eggs on toast and a coffee. I agree NY has so much to offer why spend a fortune for a bed for the night.
as long as the standard is not like, health standard violating bad then i am keen to look it up.

thanks for that red
another interesting question: are there low/high season in a town like New York ?

I am not a New Yorker, but I do visit Manhattan quite frequently.

As a caveat, I typically patronize Midtown hotels, and truthfully, the hotels I frequent average around 500.00 USD a night or more, excluding tax.

From my personal experience, it would seem that you can divide the year into 4 periods.

January to March/April and July to August: the hotel rates are what I would call low or average, relative to other times of the year. You can get very good rates in some of the hotels.

September to December: typically the most expensive time, at least by my experience.

April/May to June is relatively high, but not as high as September to December.
interesting, thanks
interesting, thanks
You're welcome.

I should note that the hotels I stay in are quite nice, but NOT the most luxurious (although I have been to a few of those, also).

One of them is a satisfactory boutique hotel where I can spend 700.00 USD a night (base charge) in high season.

I have spent the same amount for a nice room at the Beverly Wilshire in Beverly Hills, which I consider to be one of the nicest hotels in the LA area.

That's Manhattan for you.

These periods are roughly the same all over the world where they have 4 seasons. Autumn and spring are the best times for visiting a city because of the mild temperatures, December has Christmas and New Year's and the rest are either too hot or too cold.

This is not exactly true for London, at least from my experience.

For example, I was planning to go to London in June/July. For the usual hotels on the West End or in Canary Wharf, I can have rooms at a comparatively similar going rate all year round (although I am not saying that they are cheap). Air fare is another story

Which hotels?

On the West end, to name a few:

The Four Seasons
The Ritz
The Berkeley
Claridge's

When are you planning on coming to NYC? I may be able to offer you my apartment at a good rate, as I will be out of town. The apartment has one bedroom but I also have a blow-up mattress. And the price will certainly be lower than what you can find elsewhere, and you will be able to avoid being in a public setting (e.g. youth hostel, etc.)

My place is in Washington Heights, away from the desirable locations, but about 3 blocks from a C subway station and 5-6 blocks from a 1 subway line. Both of these will take you to midtown in 15-20 minutes; the Village in 30-35 minutes.
i will be in New York from the 25th of june for 2 weeks or so. PM me more info ChicagoLover please :)
The Plaza should be a nice budget hotel.:D
