We go on with our hike.

263.
Bit by bit we get higher and higher and also take time for a drink or snack and look around you en take in the landscape.

264.

265.
Looked like it would never end these 'steps'...

266.
And the clouds/fog is back...

267.
But we can still follow the path very well.

268.
We arrived at this high plain area. Bit mystical feel to it...

269.
Alone on a (foreign ;) ) planet

270.
He some part of the landscape we are walking in are a little bit visible.

271.
And then we suddenly had a very good view of Mount Ngarahoe ( aka Mount Doom 馃槈 )

272.

I love your pictures ! Ive never visited geothermal country in the North Island , but I really need to when we can travel again . The pictures of Mount Doom are great - looming out of the mist! Fond memories of Aotearoa..

Cheers , and thanks again , Steve

We go on we the hike...

274.
The other side is also getting more and more visible as are some fellow walkers enroute.

275.
The climb towards Red Crater is now also good to see for us....So we need to climb a bit more soon!

276.
Other hikers allready going up towards Red Crater.

277.
At several spots along the route we walk this day you see these kind of signs with warnings. Needed they are because every year there are people injured and even sometimes die while walking this Alpine Crossing...

278.
Well its time also getting higher up!

279.
"Halfway'' a little rest and enjoying the views around is (some parts do have a feel of beyin on some other planet or so...) ;)

280.

281.
Mount Doom yet again in good view from this halfwaypoint going up. Nice typical shape of this vulcano.

282.
View towards the other vulcano nearby, which is Mount Tongariro.

283.
Okay one more time beuatifull Mount Ngarahoe

284.
En going up, going up! Highest point in the back is in sight though.

Since its a day hike we are still on our way. :D

285.
So close but still so far away ;)

286.
Get on with it and on top some nice views

287.
Wider view from the top.

288.
Me and the vulcano.

289.
Red Crater as a name comes from something...;)

290.

291.
Time for a part downhill. Steep at parts, tricky because of the loose gravel/vulcanic stones. but with a view towards the lakes.

292.
In the distance you can see 鈥淏lue Lake鈥.

293.
A bit more downhill with nice views towards those coloured lakes!

294.
Me again....:D

The walk continues

Because we are like about only halfway our 20km hike...!:D

296.
From this angle that little mountain looks at some parts not so steep......

297.
Colourfull rocks.

298.
Almost at my 'lunchbrake' at one of the colourfull lakes.

299.
Lake and that mountain... ;)

300.
After my lunchbrake I walk on the 'flat' area between the colourfull lakes and a little hill to go up heading towards Blue Lake.

301.
But what a view indeed! So we take a extra break and enjoying this landscape we are allowed to walk in!

302.
On top at Blue Lake the clouds are back...!

303.
This part of the hike had a more natural like path to follow.

304.

305.
At the other side of the mountains we can see the path below us and also we get more and more view of the surrounding area and lakes near these vulcanic mountains.

306.
One moment you can see almost nothing and soon after you can see and explore more and more!
