The Moxy signage will look good if illuminated at night times. Looks like it will be a similar dark / light grey and pink. It is to easy for people to be critical, it is also impossible to keep everyone happy with choice. Reality is, this is now Newcastle scale, it is highly likely that this building will be surrounded by similar size buildings. It might not be the most striking palette scheme that Moxy use, but give them a chance, at least they are actually bothering to come to Newcastle and putting another piece in the jigsaw. The design, when we see it, might not be everyones liking, but at least they keep Newcastle growing, whilst attracting more development. There are benefits from every piece of the jigsaw

Not so great looking outside, but have to say they are nice inside - or at least the one I stayed in was near London City Airport, so its nice to see Moxy coming to the North East. We'll just have to hope they get the likes of Ryder to design the actual building.
Which hotel brand(s) were going to take on the old Chronicle site at the bottom of the Bigg Market?
According to the chronicle article linked below it was proposed as a ‘198 room Moxy hotel and a 96 room Residence inn aparthotel -both run by the Marriott Hotel Chain’

It is worthwhile checking the multiple renders of Moxy Hotel interiors, from worldwide locations. There seems to be very good interior design, modern, lively and a unique theme. The Moxy in Amsterdam is very well illuminated and adds character to the night time skyline. By night, Newcastle is quite bland, in comparison to many locations, where more modern illumination is apparent.
Moxy may be a brand which has preference and maybe more cash, pointed towards the interior. There is night time theme, rather than daytime appeal, but not all Moxy projects are bland, many are dynamic.
As a city with bad geographical characteristics, brands like Moxy, which is a part of the International Marriott chain, should be encouraged and welcome within Newcastle. Let us all see initial designs, before slaughtering them.

Let's not forget we do not need to be gracious to them at all- they are building in Newcastle to make money, not out of benevolence.

A city like Amsterdam has very strict standards on architectural design- carefully considered scales, materials, styles etc.

If Moxy propose garbage like their hotel in Southampton or Aberdeen they'd be laughed out the city. Thats why the photos above look acceptable- the context is driving up the quality. Newcastle should hold to similar standards.

Their Thomson House scheme was perfectly acceptable, as the surrounding context constrained their design. Helix, in being more of a blank slate will let them produce an eye catching design that looks great on booking.com, and real life- meh, doesn't matter.

I'd be interested to know what has happened to the Thomson House proposal? Why are they looking at Helix site instead?
