As mentioned previously in post #12,247 above the Nisa store on Kells Lane has been taken over byTesco or more correctly a subsidiary of Tesco called One Stop. It doesn't appear to be open yet but the signage is up and they are working on the interior:
I thought this was a simple change of franchise, but this looks like a Tesco-owned store. Normally the franchises have 'One Stop working with Acme Stores" on the signage.

£2.8m Metrocentre solar panel project underway

£2.8m Metrocentre solar panel project underway

Work is now underway on a new project to install over 3,500 rooftop and solar car port panels at the Metrocentre.

The retail and leisure destination is working with specialist renewable energy and low carbon technology consultant Syzygy Consulting to complete the £2.8m project and is one of the unique schemes to be granted ERDF funding for 50 per cent of the total cost of the project.

The solar panels will be installed on the roof of Metrocentre and on specially constructed solar car ports. In March 2022, solar car ports and 46 new EV charging ports will also be added to the Green and Blue Mall car parks.

The project will generate 1,243,800 kWh of electricity per year, the same energy required to power 340 households every year.

I've been in the room behind the clock - it has a fantastic view. It was to let and a pal was looking at it for a studio - he was in the art centre and eventually got a place in Charlotte Square. Mid-90s. The big windows were single glass panes and it would've been freezing in the winter. Antique public clocks are mostly stopped, it seems, nowadays ...

Hadn't noticed this before.
The Goldsmiths clock is still waiting to be repaired.
If you remember, Nick Forbes stood under the clock and said he would get it fixed. Still waiting a few years now.

Nearly ten years since then.
Will it be fixed at all before it falls apart? Cost more than six grand to repair it now.

As long as it's not deteriorating, I can't see how you can force the owners to make it work. With that logic, can I force the council to make the water fountains in working order like the one on the Bigg Market?

When I think about the grief L'Occitane (rightly enough if dem's the rules) had when their window frames were the wrong shade of mustard (they're closing on Christmas Eve by the way)... I do wonder how a good 80% of Grainger Town gets way with what it does. It's soooo depressing at the minute.

Easy target, wealthy multi national.

Local businesses + don't ask permission = the chances of anything beyond a letter or two, and that over a period of years is nil unless someone decides to sit on planning and make their lives difficult.

That’s a shame they are closing. Newcastle has just recently lost SPACE NK too.
