I wonder what the plan is for the old Gibside school site in Whickham, it adjoins the Whickham comp site so would be ideal for future expansion but I imagine that Gateshead council will want to recoup some of the cost of the new school and sell the old site off for housing..

It's just over 50 years since the reorganisation in Tynemouth that saw the 11 plus scrapped and the borough go fully comprehensive. Tynemouth, prior to comprehensivisation, did adopt the full tripatite school system after the war, with a grammar school for the most academic( Tynemouth High School) a technical school for pupils who wanted to be tradesmen and engineers, and secondary moderns for the rest.

Does anyone know what is going to happen to the old Gibside School site in Whickham. The site is riught next to Whickham Comp so could be used for expansion of the school, but I guess it will probabley be sold off for housing to raise funds for the construction of the new school

Huge plans approved to build new schools for more than 1,600 pupils in Newcastle's outer west

Simonside Primary School will move to a new, bigger home under the multi-million pound plans, while a new secondary school will also be built in Newbiggin Hall

Plans for a new primary school and a new secondary school in Newbiggin Hall were given the green light by city councillors on Friday morning.

Newcastle City Council’s granting of planning permissions means that the former Simonside Community Centre will now be demolished to allow Simonside Primary School to relocate to a newly-built site.

The new primary school will have an increased capacity for up to 420 pupils, plus a 26-place nursery.

A secondary school for up to 1,200 pupils will then be built on the site of the existing primary school in Bedeburn Road.
