Nice, France: architecturally a Southern European city?

See related thread for comparison:
Lille, France: architecturally a Northern European city or not?

Located 23 km from Italy and right along the Mediterranean Sea, Nice is located in one of France’s southern regions with Mediterranean coast. Looking at the type of windows, roofs and overall high density, is Nice a Southern European city at least in architecture?

Images are from Google Maps Street View. A few images are of adjacent municipalities in the continuous Nice urbanized area.

Looks like a very nice city. Thanks for posting the pictures.
The problem is Google Street View has not covered the Old Nice, i.e. the medieval heart of the city, i.e. what constituted the entire city until 1800, probably because the streets there are too small, so they couldn't reach it. As a result, all of what you're showing here are districts of Nice developped after 1800, especially after 1850.

There are 3 photos of the edge of Old Nice. Howerver, the small area of land that corresponds to Old Nice is not the only part of Nice capable of having a Southern European/Mediterranean flair. It is my intention to show Nice and a bit beyond, not Old Nice.

Very nice!!! I think it's certainly typical southern European/mediterranean!
Amazing indeed :) Nice city is indeed a southern European city or better a southern French city.
After Monte Carlo (Monaco) i like most this city
After pic 28 it looks very italian to me :), but for the most part it looks french, similar to other central-south french cities.

I'm quite confused cause' Old Nice really makes me think of Mediterranean cities, you know the cities where clothes dry above the streets...:)

This is quite hard to say... As said before... the "Vieux Nice" is very italian...
The development of the city in the XIX century has been done by the European high society... They imported their own styles : tudor, gothic, russian...
The exotism has been a fashion as well... with some arabic or mauresque buildings (the casino was a magnificent exemple of that style).
There is only the end of the XIXth/ begining of XXth century which has seen a kind of nationalist and above all regionalist architecture. They used grey stone (evocating for instance the architecture of small villages as St Paul de Vence), and painted some parts of the façade (in reference to the genovian style of painted façade)...
Then the american went to the french Riviera and Art Deco as modernism was a fashion...
After the second world war... there is some strange architectural development... unknown... some kind of architecture-sculpture... but nothing regionalist or nationalist. During the 80's some "provençal" building were erected... nothing interesting... and for now...contemporary architecture is unexistant....

So... is Nice a southern european city...? yes because of the old nice and the influence of this part on the style of the city... and no... because of the melting pot which gave to the city a mix of architecture...

Some exemple :

Italian old town

Art nouveau and regionalist influence

parisian way of life

orientalism

viennish style

It looks like the french quarter of Casablanca
Oui en fait le vieux nice pour l'italie, depuis que Nice est français les palais ont été construit par les riches artistocrate de l'époque, on doit surtout la beauté de nice à cette époque qui était française...
Nice!

Looks like Turin on the sea with a very mediterranean climate!

good.

Has the city the same problems of Marseille?
