Nigeria has the highest rate of Twin Births in the World

According to CNN iList
Yeah it is very true......Especially among the Yoruba. This is a proven scientific fact.
In some parts of Oyo,Lagos and Ogun states,It can be as much as 10 in every 100 live births !!!!

http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/people/highlights/010607_twins.shtml

PREDISPOSING FACTORS
Ethnicity

About 1 in 90 human births (1.1%) results from a twin pregnancy.[31] The rate of dizygotic twinning varies greatly among ethnic groups, ranging as high as about 45 per 1000 births for the Yoruba to 10% for Linha São Pedro, a tiny Brazilian settlement which belongs to the city of Cândido Godói.[32] In Cândido Godói, one in five pregnancies have resulted in twins.[33] The Argentine historian Jorge Camarasa has put forward a theory that experiments of the Nazi doctor Josef Mengele could be responsible for the high ratio of twins in the area.[34] His theory was rejected by Brazilian scientists who had studied twins living in Linha São Pedro; they suggested genetic factors within that community as a more likely explanation.[35] A high twinning rate has also been observed in other places of the world, including Igbo-Ora in Nigeria[36] and Kodinji in India.[37]

The widespread use of fertility drugs causing hyperovulation (stimulated release of multiple eggs by the mother) has caused what some call an "epidemic of multiple births". In 2001, for the first time ever in the US, the twinning rate exceeded 3% of all births. Nevertheless, the rate of monozygotic twins remains at about 1 in 333 across the globe.

In a study on the maternity records of 5750 Hausa women living in the Savannah zone of Nigeria, there were 40 twins and 2 triplets per 1000 births. Twenty-six per cent of twins were monozygous. The incidence of multiple births, which was about five times higher than that observed in any western population, was significantly lower than that of other ethnic groups, who live in the hot and humid climate of the southern part of the country. The incidence of multiple births was related to maternal age but did not bear any association to the climate or prevalence of malaria.[38]
[edit] Predisposing factors

The predisposing factors of monozygotic twinning are unknown.

Dizygotic twin pregnancies are slightly more likely when the following factors are present in the woman:

* She is of West African descent (especially Yoruba)
* She is between the age of 30 and 40 years
* She is greater than average height and weight
* She has had several previous pregnancies.

Belgium has 10 million people...
Thanks for that Mr Census

and btw There aren't as many people as you would think active in the Nigerian Formal sector.

When you factor in the percentage of people within the labour bracket. and the Unemployment which is about 20%

So really we are looking about less than 40% active in the formal sector

And the Informal sector of course is not factored into the equation.

Nigeria's GDP really is what it is ...it doesn't matter how large our population is...it cannot be more competitive until we get a few things in order...but this is occurring and in the coming years there should be a steady climb.

^^ I read on a wiki article about Nigeria's economy that it's estimated that if economic activity in the informal sector was taken into account, Nigeria's gdp would be around $520 billion officially. Don't know where they got those numbers from.

Previously hindered by years of mismanagement, economic reforms of the past decade have put Nigeria back on track towards achieving its full economic potential. Nigerian GDP at purchasing power parity more than doubled from $170.7 billion in 2005 to $374.3 billion in 2010, although estimates of the size of the informal sector (which is not included in official figures) put the actual numbers closer to $520 billion.

WPP: the world economy in football speak

WPP, the British adveristing agency which reported jump in profits on Friday, has resorted to English football to explain how the world continues to move at very different speeds, both geographically and functionally.

Premier League: This the advertiser says consists of the BRICs - Brazil, Russia, India and China, the Next 11 - Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, South Korea, Turkey, Vietnam - and the CIVETS - Colombia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Egypt, Turkey, South Africa. He also includes new media, driven by personal computers, mobile phones, video content, social networks.

The Championship: The United States and Germany dominate here. The US because of its size, immigrant, entrepreneurial culture and human and natural resources and "economically well-run" Germany with its "high value-added manufacturing" and "export-led" economy. Free-to-air television also makes it into this division.

League One: Western Europe, primarily the United Kingdom, France, Italy and Spain, along with newspapers and magazines. However, WPP holds out some hope of promotion for Britain, with its Coalition Government's emphasis on deficit reduction and long-term growth.
