Dubai gets a taste of India's famous Queen Pineapples as SpiceJet & Delhi Airport partner to trans-ship first consignment from Agartala. 200 tons will be transported under MoU with Tripura Horti. Corp. to Dubari bringing wide cheer to farmers & realising agri-export potential of NER. This is for the first time that exports are happening from this State, unheard of before. In 2012, an attempt was made to export a small quantity to Bangladesh but the plan was dropped off as there was no facilities nor farming was adequate and the produce was far lower than Thailand despite being the 6th largest producer of pineapples in India. The potential was never explored. Today the scenario has changed. Courtesy: Min of Civil Aviation

Flybig starts flights to "India's easternmost airport": TEZU !!!

So heartening to see air connectivity reach such remote areas of N-E. BTW it looks like they are operating from the refurbished Old Terminal. Few weeks of work still left on completion of the new terminal. Flybig will operate 4x weekly service between Guwahati and Tezu.

Arunachal: ILS system to be installed at Pasighat airport

If technical feasibilities are met, the Pasighat airport in Arunachal Pradesh’s East Siang district could soon become the first airport in the state to be equipped with an Instrument Landing System (ILS) that ensures smooth and safe landing of flights.

The ILS is a radio navigation system that provides short-range guidance for an aircraft which allows them to approach a runway at night or during bad weather.

The assurance to install the ILS was given by Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, who said that the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has been asked to explore the feasibility of installing the precision landing aid in the airport.

Shillong Airport may get busier

More flight services are likely to be introduced at the Shillong Airport at Umroi this winter.

Sources said plans are afoot to connect Shillong with six-seven more flights during winter and some routes have been already proposed. However, nothing has been finalised yet.

“There is going to be a huge pressure on the airport during winter as many people are expected to come to Shillong for tourism-related purposes,” the sources said. Currently, the Shillong Airport is connected with Kolkata, Silchar and Agartala. Flybig has resumed its Shillong-Delhi flight service.

Giving wings to Baljek airport

Baljek airport near Tura in Meghalaya lying unutilized for the past 13 years ever since its inauguration speaks volumes about poor air connectivity in the northeast region. It also reminds us of the paradox that even though Northeast is at the centre of India's Act East and Neighbourhood First policies, key infrastructure projects move at a snail's pace in the region. A 19-seater aircraft, in which the then President Pratibha Patil came in 2008 for the inauguration of the airport, was the first and last aircraft to land and take-off from this airport.

Meghalaya government's decision to hand over the airport to the Airports Authority of India (AAI) for expansion of the runway of the airport has triggered hope for its operationalization.

The AAI sent the draft Memorandum of Understanding for taking over the airport to the Meghalaya government in 2013. The airport, a dream project of former Lok Sabha Speaker late PA Sangma, was built at Rs 12.52 crore for the operation of 20-seater aircraft to boost tourism and agriculture apart from facilitating air travel to and from landlocked Garo Hills districts.

Fixed-wing flight services to start in Arunachal border towns this winter

Air connectivity in Arunachal Pradesh is ‘set’ to get another milestone with paths being cleared for the introduction of fixed-wing flight services to its remote border towns of Mechuka, Tuting, Ziro and Vijaynagar.

In the virtual presence of Chief Minister Pema Khandu, the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) today signed an agreement with Alliance Air to lease out two ‘Made in India’ Dornier DO-228, a 16-seater aircraft, for operation in Arunachal Pradesh under the Central Government’s Regional Connectivity Scheme, UDAN.

“Very happy to witness the historic lease agreement signing between @HALHQBLR & @allianceair through VC. Two fixed-wing 16 seater #madeinindia DO-228 Aircraft will connect remote parts of Arunachal this winter and usher in a new era of development in the region,” Khandu tweeted.
