Quite a tricky brownfield site, quality of the brick will be important as there's rather a lot of it.

Another for the ever extending list of Southside projects!
That looks like a really decent proposal and it would be a great addition to the Southside to expand the city centre towards the Trent. If the render is anything to go by, the brick façade looks great.

I'm really enjoying the recent proposals for this part of the city. Much better than what other places get, although it seems that a trend of good-looking modern buildings is finally beginning to appear everywhere.

Hope it gets built!

Interesting!

Brick is very much the cladding of the age, is seems, which is a welcome change. There are one or two things that don't feel quite right with this though:

There's almost too much brick here - it kind of has the feel of a prison about it. Could have done with a different style somewhere to break it. Also I'm not crazy about those boxes on top, and the groundfloor units don't look anywhere near as good as the ones at Summer Leys, particularly that totally blank corner.

I'm being picky of course, and it's a substantial proposal for an unloved area of the city - but as much as I'm enjoying this higher quality, brick led revolution I don't get that fuzzy feeling that I did on seeing the new Summer Leys designs. Looks a budget version to me.

Wow. Ok, It’s a bit bulky and brown, but what a difference it will make. That site’s been empty for decades.
My main gripe are the blank walls at ground level on the corners, I understand these are the cores but I'm sure something can be addressed about these.

With this development, Saffron Court (currently U/C) and the Laceworks which will be starting shortly, this will bring an additional 1165 units to this area alone. 642 being student and 527 being PRS.

Bar the odd quibble with the design, this is fantastic news! Things are really starting to happen with this area now. Great to see the centre expanding southwards.
I like it! A few bare walls at ground level which is a shame, but tbf other than that it looks good.
This actaully has some nice little quirks. Really like the curved corner secion and how those 3 windows have been inset. Although its big and bulky its broken up another to give some interesting views. This could actually be really good with some really decent windows (which i assume won't happen) but it could really elevate it.. Good news though.. This would have been clad in some shit plastic tile 2 years ago and look dated as soon as it went up. Hooray for the British brick...

Flipping heck that's a bit of a lump!

The views looking towards the station are much more resolved than those looking back towards the meadows.

Recommended Approval For Next Week - Amendments to Design

The PRS residential side fronting Crocus Street has since been reduced to 6 floors from 8 meaning a reduction in PRS units to 149. The 8 storey student block remains mostly unchanged bar a few minor tweaks here and there.

Not a big fan of this tbh, complete lack of symmetry in the design (window positioning) makes it look a bit of a mess. Reminds me of this building

But this site has been vacant for a long time, so it is good to see something get built. And it includes ground floor retail, which is a bonus

From Stig's map I make it 1600+ new residential units between Crocus, Saffron Court, Laceworks, and The Vantage - all within half a mile. With a few more in the works, and even more vacant land.

I think it actually needs some infrastructure - a Tesco at least.
At this rate we'll be planning SSC walking tours (could be a cool idea actually)!

I have to admit, I think this is now my favourite proposal for Nottingham thus far, even more so than Tim Grooms 'The Lace Works'.
Infinitely better!

Genuinely a nice looking buildings, brick cladding, a courtyard with open public space and a decent bit of height. What's not to like?

Get it built
