Noticed today they have started to fence off an area in the middle of the park, any idea what for?

The new Mothercare and Carpetright units look great, Best Buy seems to be coming along nicely too as the other 3 units have been totally gutted!

It will be for a Costa.

Carphone Warehouse has now closed. Planning has gone in for signage for Betta Living furniture store in that unit instead.

New units are coming on well. Foundations for the new Costa unit are going in, and looks like all the utilities have been done, judging by the trenches all over the car park.

Best Buy is coming on quickly, they are charging on with the cladding, looks like a mixture of grey, white and then 'Bestbuy-blue'.

Green light for store expansion's 70 jobs

A SUPERMARKET in Castle Marina is set to be expanded, creating 70 new jobs.

Sainsbury's was given permission to expand to stock more non-food products by the city council's development control committee yesterday.

The store in Castle Bridge Road will also get a cafe on a new first floor.

Deputy council leader Councillor Graham Chapman welcomed the jobs but added: "We have got to be conscious of the fragility of city centre shopping at the moment."

He said that a condition that no more than 38 per cent of floor space could be used for white goods and no more than 15 per cent for clothes would stop the city centre being hit.

The company will also have to pay to improve the canal towpath, provide better bus links and contribute towards training, so that the new full and part-time jobs would go to local people.

The store's green measures including a biomass boiler to produce half its energy and a facility to harvest rainwater.

The plans were approved unanimously.
Should be good as this store is so popular, queues are massive pretty much all the time.

Thanks for the photos. Looks like quite a development going on down there! Should look the business when it's all finally completed.

Saw the new Sainsburys renders in the paper, they look very good actually and have changed the whole entrance so that you enter at the back of the exisiting car park. That will be so much better as the current layout takes you through the aisles which is a poor design.

Currys has had planning approval for a new mezzanine floor (approved way back in Sept in fact) along with new signage to reflect the new branding of the company. Signs will also reflect a phones4u concession somewhere inside i'm guessing!

Currys store was almost empty of stock today with signs up that they are closing for the refit of the store. It will be rebranded as a Currys Megastore, im guessing partly in response to the new competition about to arrive

They are charging ahead with this project, working at weekends as well. Looks as thought it'll be a race to see if it's this or the new look Currys open first.

Currys have now closed and have formed a temporary joint store at PC World until the new store is complete

Ok, here are some more updates from the developments around here.

Currys Megastore opened on the 1st April with a new second floor, Phones 4U concession, help desk and coffee shop (yet to open). Snazzy store with a lot more ranges of products.

Besy Buy signage is now up and the store is completely fitted out. Just awaiting stock. Looks as though they have marble floors in there, looks top notch.

Costa is racing up with the cladding and roof now going on. Just the windows need to go in for the structure to be water tight.

Best Buy rolls out new stores

Thursday May 5th 2011

Best Buy UK continues its expansion with the opening of two new stores. The first will open in Castle Marina Retail Park in Nottingham in May and the second in Rotherham's Parkgate shopping centre in June.

The stores will follow the same format as the retailer’s other outlets selling a wide range of audio and visual equipment as well as entertainment devices, mobiles, music, movies, and games.

Best Buy opened its first UK store in Thurrock last year and since then has rolled out another seven stores across the country. A new store in Enfield will open later this year.

Best Buy opens doors to new Nottingham store

Electrical retailer Best Buy has this morning opened a store at Castle Marina Retail Park in Nottingham, its ninth outlet in the UK.

Singer Alesha Dixon will mark the store opening with a live performance on Saturday morning, just as she did at the unveiling of the company’s Hayes and Cribbs Causeway shops last month.

It is now just over a year since Best Buy Europe, the joint venture between US-based Best Buy and UK mobile phone retailer Carphone Warehouse, unveiled its first British store and portfolio growth has proved steady rather than speedy.

In the years leading up to the business’s arrival on this side of the Atlantic, speculation was rife that up to 200 stores would be opened in quick succession, but the global recession has meant that such ambitious expansion plans had to be put on hold.

Last year Best Buy opened up in Thurrock, Hedge End, Merry Hill, Aintree, Croydon and Derby, while just two more stores are set to arrive, in Rotherham and Enfield, before the end of 2011.

Managing Director of Best Buy in the UK Steve Jensen argued this month that the electricals specialist has followed the right strategy considering the challenging environment for all retailers in the last two years.

“The UK is a mature market for consumer electricals retailing; however we feel there is a real opportunity to deliver better service through our people,” he explained.

Commenting on the latest addition to the company’s property portfolio, General Manager at Best Buy Nottingham Mark Shapland put a positive spin on the business’s store opening strategy.

“Nottingham marks the third new Best Buy store to open this year and the ninth in the UK, and each grand opening weekend has been bigger and better than the last,” he stated.

“We have 100 new team members from the local area who, after nine weeks of intensive training at our Blueshirt Academy, are raring to show Nottingham how different we are from any other technology store.”

The 33,000 sq ft Nottingham store has already launched a number of special weekend promotions to coincide with the new opening.

From today through to Monday the store will also play host to DJs, live product demos and a Best Buy tour bus with on-board 3D cinema.

I bought a laptop from there this morning which was an opening day offer. The buying experience was good generally, the assistants are very friendly and casual in manner, definitely preferable to going to Comet/Pc World etc. Was packed as well, strange to see a technology store that size with so much activity inside.

Looked like Costa had just opened up too as that had baloons outside and people with signs pointing it out.

Planning has been submitted for a new restaurant unit alongside Mcdonalds on Castle Bridge Road. The site between Holiday Inn and Mcdonalds will have seperate access from the road and parking in front of it.

I think this has a tenant lined up as there are references to changes made for tenant in the planning documents. Will be good to see this blank plot filled.

Why?

A new out-of-town chain 'restaurant' on a retail park.

I'm happy for anyone who gets a job there, but otherwise - with dozens of potential restaurant units available a mile or two away in the city centre - I'm not sure it's necessarily good news.
