Forest consider City Ground exit

The City Ground is located close to the River Trent
League One club Nottingham Forest has revealed plans to move to a new purpose-built stadium located on the outskirts of the city.
The club's chief executive Mark Arthur said the team was considering a move from its City Ground home to a site on the south of Nottingham in Clifton.

The current ground on the River Trent has been home to club since 1898.

The stadium would have a capacity of between 40,000 and 50,000 with most of the funding from the private sector.

'New gateway'

The new location is closer to the M1, but the move would probably be timed to coincide with the expansion of the nearby A453, which links the area to the motorway.

Forest chief executive Mark Arthur said the club was excited about the new stadium which would be a focus for new jobs and events in the area.

He said the club's main goal was still promotion to the Championship and then the Premiership - and added that the money for the project would not be taken from player funds.

The new stadium project is a "dramatic new gateway" to the city that should be in place by 2014, he said.

The scheme would also include new housing and other commercial developments in the Clifton area.

Mr Arthur said the club has not yet calculated an exact cost for the entire project.

Forest consider new venue options

The new Forest stadium was originally proposed for Clifton
League One club Nottingham Forest are looking at alternative locations for a new stadium after announcing a tentative site in June.
The BBC has learned the club is unlikely to move to Clifton as it initially announced.

Nottingham City Council is in favour of a location closer to the city centre.

The club wants to move away from the City Ground on the banks of the River Trent in the city centre to get a bigger capacity.

Ongoing discussions

The club wants the new ground to be a host venue in England's 2018 World Cup bid, but needs a 50,000-seat stadium to host World Cup matches.

Discussions are continuing between Nottingham City Council, Rushcliffe Borough Council, Nottingham Forest and potential developers.

Forest chief executive Mark Arthur said: "Clifton is still high on the agenda for Nottingham Forest, but it may not necessarily be the site that everyone prefers."

The Clifton location was close to the M1 and the move would have been timed to coincide with the expansion of the nearby A453, which links the area to the motorway.

The club's ground on the River Trent has been its home since 1898.

I just posted this 2 threads below.
I am a forest supporter, a few years ago they where thinking of going in with notts county is that still the case or is it solely a Forest ground?
I think its all pie in the sky at the moment. I can't see it happening and i just think its a ploy to get the world cup to nottingham.. Now County have new owners i would think they'd be rubbing there hands together if Forest did move to a new stadium outside the city as county would then surely be known as the City club and attract some more fans who can't be arsed to drive or get the bus to the arse end of nowhere..
Forest's stadium is already outside the city.
Only in the same way that Old Trafford is outside Manchester.
I personally feel that this is pointless, all they need to do is fill in the trent corners and build a new main stand.

if only that were true. the city ground is horribly outdated. it's disjointed, the concourses are too cramped, the acoustics are poor in most of the stadium, the 'commercial' facilities aren't great, and the site is too cramped to allow for much to be done the capacity.

it's an absolutely brilliant site - great for transport and amenities, and easily the most scenic ground in england. what we really need to do is knock it down, along with some of the surrounding buildings, and put a modern stadium up on that site. alas, that's never going to happen.
Thanks for the posting, love the render:cheers:

I agree that the site is perfect and great for transport, local amenities surroundings etc. I don't really agree the ground is horribly outdated.. The BC stand has quite cramped concourses and the main stand obviously needs rebuilding. Any new stand will incorporate new commercial facilities anyway. I would suggest that a new main stand, renovating the BC stand and continuing the second tier of the Bridgeford will give us a great stadium, ready for the world cup, and not saddled with huge debt and a bland out of town stadium..
Article by forest chairman ND. Towards the end the world cup bid/new/redeveloped stadium topic is discussed. Pretty positive reading really. I get the feeling that if we get a new ground it could be pretty tasty although i think he prefers the redveloped city ground option (although he won't say this as he's trying to get money out of the council to pay for it). There is no way that a new 50,000 seat stadium in nottingham could be financially viable so it looks as though Forest & the Council will be playing a little be of poker over the coming months.

Council kicks Nottingham Forest stadium plans into touch

Nottingham Forest Football Club has unveiled plans, masterminded by a design team including Benoy, for a new 45,000-seat stadium, but Nottinghamshire County Council has already slammed the proposal

Proposals for the new stadium, which would replace the club’s City Ground, form a crucial part of the city’s bid to host matches for the 2018 World Cup, reports Construction News.

City council officials are keen for the club to move to the site at Gamston in Nottingham’s greenbelt, having ruled out further development of Nottingham Forest’s City Ground home.

However, this has angered the county council, which owns the land and has refused to give it up for development.

County council leader Kay Cutts told the BBC that the city council was acting like a ‘centre forward prima donna’.

She added: ‘We’ve made it very clear that we would only support a bid on the existing Forest site. Our land at Gamston is not for sale.

‘We don’t believe that changing the location of our premier ground is a good move.Iit’s bad for football, bad for business, bad for local people and risks scuppering our bid to be a World Cup city.’

Benoy declined to comment on developments.

A decision on which country will host the 2018 World Cup will be made in December 2010. Sixteen towns and cities, including nearby Derby and Leicester, are bidding to become hosts if England is successful.

Old news

NOTTINGHAM'S bid to host matches in the 2018 World Cup will proceed despite objections to a new stadium at Gamston, it is claimed.

The Nottingham 2018 World Cup bid team discussed proposals for the 45,000 seat football ground with the Football Association yesterday.

The bid team includes representatives of Nottingham Forest, Nottingham City Council, Notts County Council and Rushcliffe Borough Council.

But while discussion about the plans took place at Wollaton Hall, Coun Kay Cutts, the county council leader, issued an attack on the Gamston plan.

Coun Cutts said the city council was "acting like a centre forward prima donna in announcing its plans for a new stadium through the media".

She said: "We've made it very clear we would only support a bid on the existing Forest site. Our land at Gamston is not for sale."

The second draft of Nottingham's bid, which was sent to the FA more than a week ago, concluded redevelopment of the City Ground would not meet FIFA requirements and Gamston was the best option.

Coun Jon Collins the leader of Nottingham City Council, said: "This has been an all-authority, all-party bid from the start and it needs to remain so if we are to be successful."

County council representatives have been involved in this and I hope the reaction is based on a misunderstanding of what is involved."

It was claimed last night that the county council owns only a "modest" portion of the land at Gamston, put at about 10%, and that the project could proceed without the county council.

As with the tram issue, the County Council will get bitch slapped into line :gunz:
oh yes and the capacity will be 45k for the world cup and 38k in "legacy" mode, i.e. for Nottingham Forest afterwards, so if a mod could do the honours and alter the title...

No, it's going to be solely a Forest ground. However, a second 10,000-seater 'Community Stadium' is included in the plans and the idea is that this will house Nottingham Rugby as well as being an athletics venue.
