Forest consider new venue options

The new Forest stadium was originally proposed for Clifton
League One club Nottingham Forest are looking at alternative locations for a new stadium after announcing a tentative site in June.
The BBC has learned the club is unlikely to move to Clifton as it initially announced.

Nottingham City Council is in favour of a location closer to the city centre.

The club wants to move away from the City Ground on the banks of the River Trent in the city centre to get a bigger capacity.

Ongoing discussions

The club wants the new ground to be a host venue in England's 2018 World Cup bid, but needs a 50,000-seat stadium to host World Cup matches.

Discussions are continuing between Nottingham City Council, Rushcliffe Borough Council, Nottingham Forest and potential developers.

Forest chief executive Mark Arthur said: "Clifton is still high on the agenda for Nottingham Forest, but it may not necessarily be the site that everyone prefers."

The Clifton location was close to the M1 and the move would have been timed to coincide with the expansion of the nearby A453, which links the area to the motorway.

The club's ground on the River Trent has been its home since 1898.
