Heading south brings us into the hood known as Sunset Pk. It goes from 65th St with the Gowanus Expwy (I-278) and Belt Pkwy to 15th St between 8th Ave with 37th St, Ft Hamilton Pkwy, and Prospect Expwy (NY 27) and the East River. This hood is mostly residential. In 1662, it was settled by the Dutch and they called New Utercht. In the 19th century when it became a major shipping port. In 1838, Greenwood Cemetery was founded, and a became a burial site for mainly Civil War soldiers who were from Brooklyn. At the time it recieved a number of immigrants from Ireland, Poland, and Norway. Its first sign of transportation came when the LIRR made a stop at the Bush Terminal. Rowhouses were being built at the time as the population grew. Around WWI, the Brooklyn Army Terminal was built as a fort for the military. The name came from the park that had the same name. Unfortunately, Sunset Pk lost a lot of residents after the move to the suburbs. In 1941, the Gowanus Expwy was being built as was the Prospect Expw in the 1950's. The LIRR began to no longer run there. Sunset Pk began to get a number of immigrants from Gujart, India who were looking for places they can afford in 1974. Other immigrants from China, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Domincan Republic, and even from the Mid East came to live here. By the 1990's, Sunset Pk got a Chinatown of its own. In 1997, the NY&A Railway took over the former line. Today, it is home to middle income families. Sunset Pk is home to Battle Hill, which is the highest point in Brooklyn and is located in Greenwood Cemetery. If anyone is familiar with the Honeymooners, it took place here as did the recent movie. You can get here by taking the subway to Prospect Ave (M, R), 25th St-4th Ave (M, R), 36th-4th Ave (D, M, N, R), 45th St-4th Ave (R), 53rd St-4th Ave (R), and 59th St-4th Ave (N, R) as well as taking the Bay Ridge Ferry from Wall St at Pier 11 to Pier 4. Here is what you will find in Sunset Pk.
