Heading south brings us into the hood known as Hillcrest. It goes from Union Tpk to the GCP between Parsons Blvd and Utopia Pkwy. This hood is mostly residential. It was orginally home to the Canarsee Indians until it was purchased by the Dutch in 1656, who called it Rustdorp. It was later on taken over by the English in 1664, who renamed it Jamaica. In 1776, this area was known as a major trading post. In 1870, St John's University was founded and placed its main campus here by the Vincentian Community. Hillcrest got its name after being located on hills around Jamaica, though it is seen more of a suburb than its own area. There isn't too much to know here, and it is associated sometimes with Jamaica or even Briarwood rather than being by itself. You can get here by taking the Q25, Q30, Q31, Q34, Q46, and Q65 buses. Here is what you will find in Hillcrest.
