Some Projects

Chesham House
Cancelled

Use - Residential
- Office on lower floors
Floors - 20
Height - 73m (239.5ft)

Notes
- This project has actually been cancelled but still deserves a mention because of the high possibility of it emerging once again in more prosperous, adventurous times in the city. Whilst still in sketchy development stages the developers stalled the project after a feasability study found it would only make £500,000 profit.
- Due to its prime site and the rising rents in Sheffield this project or something similar is likely to emerge in the coming months.

Cala Eclipse
Approved

Use - Residential
Floors - 22
Height - 72m (236ft)

Links
CALA Eclipse

Notes
- This landmark tower for Sheffield contains 205 residential apartments and is fully approved. Months of different start dates each more delayed than the last plus tempting glimpes of workmen preparing utilities and ground in the area have amplified the frustration this one generates.
- The projects latest start-date is June.

Hanover House
Approved

Use - Residential
- Retail and Leisure
Floors - 22
Height - 72m (236ft)

Notes
- This fully approved residential tower and block of 233 apartments sits on the other side of Moore street from Cala Eclipse, creating an important gateway feel to the area.
- Marketing of the apartments begins soon, with construction beginning once the majority have been sold.

St Pauls Place - City Lofts
Proposed

Use - Residential
Floors - 22 and 9
Height - 72m (236ft)

Links
St Pauls Place
SheffieldOne

Notes
- The tower is 22 storeys but is linked to a 9 storey sister which will front onto the new public square in the centre of St. Pauls Place. the project contains 279 apartments.
- On the site of the old registary office on Arundel Gate, this modern style mid-rise is the landmark structure of the new St Pauls Place development, in the heart of the city district.
- Although councillors have commended its design it has attracted negative comments from the public, rival politicians and urban professionals. It is awaiting a decision on its future.

23 Furnival Gate
Proposed

Use - Residential
- Retail at ground level
Floors - 19
Height - 65m (213ft)

Notes
- This recently proposed tower in a prominent position is awaiting a decision on its future. It adds to the 'high-rise' alley the council are keen on creating around Charter Square.
- The current building, 'Nelson House', is home to the Nelson Pub, another popular drinking establishment to fall victim to new projects (The Yorkshire Grey will make way for the St Pauls Place Car Park).

Broad Street
Proposed

Use - Residential
Floors - 19
Height - 57m (187ft)

Notes
- Another large student accomadation project in the city centre this Post Modernist effort has around the same number of floors as Sheffields other tall proposals, but its purely residential floors only come in at a total of 57m. However its prominent location alongside the Parkway and beside the tramline, onto which an entrance should front on the 3rd or 4th floor, means its impact on the view of Sheffield as a high-rise city will be great.
- The lower blocks of the project reach up to 12 floors and 118ft/36m.

Scotland Street Apartments
Under Construction

Use - Residential
Floors - 15*
Height - 46m (150ft)*

Notes
- Despite having made the most progress in terms of planning and construction (it is currently 50-70% its final height) of all the new build single towers, the amount of news, documents or plans known for this building is very low. Even advertisments for the apartments are rare.
- The site is directly next to V1 which both stand on Tenter Street, opposite the HSBC offices in the Pennine Centre

V1 - Velocity Living
Under Construction

Use - Residential
- Office
Floors - 14
Height - 43m (141ft)

Links
Project Website

Notes
- This "revolutionary urban village" will provide high end office space and high quality 1 and 2 bedroom apartments. The project, which after sucessful site clearing is awaiting construction to start in earnest, is situated alongside the Scotland Street scheme which together are the first signs of regeneration in the St.Vincents quarter.
- Ground clearance at the site is complete but contractors 'Keir' have been taken off by the developer after concerns over phasing and progress.

Castle House Redevlopment
Approved

Use - Resdiential
- Retail
Floors- 11
Height- 35m (115ft)

Links
BBC News

Notes
- This project is a proposed redevelopment of a historic riverside building close to the wicker. As well as a striking elliptical tower, the project will include a new public space and a riverside walk.
- The current tennants of the existing store, fronting onto the Wicker have fully prepared premises on Queens Street ready to be used.
- The scheme is currently at an early pre-marketing stage, with the developers expected to begin advertising this summer.

Developers Site

Notes - The Project Site states this will consist of 116 new build apartments, plus 46 New York style loft apartments and fifty mixed tenure apartments. However the planning application (09/05/05) is for 268 student apartments plus 100 private apartments. Both descriptions include parking and a glazed street with shops and cafes.
- Sheffield-based developers Hunshelf have already had a hand in Sheffield projects including Exchange Works, the Sheffiel Hallam University accomadation block.
- Some people have reported ground clearance before the planning application was submitted. Status Unknown.

St. Pauls Place - Macdonald Hotel
Under Construction

Use - Hotel
- Conferencing Facilities
Floors - 7
Height - 72ft*

Links
Project Site
SheffieldOne

Notes
- The latest stage of the Heart Of the City scheme to approach completition this 4-star hotel is located on Norfolk Street between the Town Hall and the Wintergardens, and is home to 161 rooms and the largest conferencing suite in the city.
- During the planning stages it was subject to veherment criticism from the public, unhappy with the loss of views from the peace gardens of the popular wintergardens.
- The covering and scaffolding is slowly being removed revealing its glass and sandstone coloured cladding.

Nice one Andrew,

One correction though. I believe that hannover house or whatever they call it has already been approved and that marketing of off plan will start in next couple of months.

Yeah that Scotland Street development is something of a mystery isn't it? Considering that it's the most progressed of all the developments is strange that all we have is a crappy little render from the Blundells' website. What storey is construction up to now anyway?

M

Ps - Finally a good signing Warnock. But £800,000, the board of SUFC must have come down with some nasty virus!

Hi im new to this forum and i have been browsing this forum for months now and im glad to be a new member. I am a proud Sheffielder and have lived in Sheffield all my life. I wanted to start my first ever post off by saying how a new high rise alley should be near the Arts tower to add some density because as it is now it just stands alone plus can anyone post any pictures of the Shoreham Street devolpment as i live in this area.

e-campus is situated on the old bus station, between the exisiting pond street station and Sheaf street. The site is cleared and although i don't know any details about it myself or anyone who would know any detailsm it is like to start moving in the next few months as Sheffield Hallam move forward in redeveloping the Nelson Mandela Building down the road.

In other University news a new state of the art nurse and doctor training centre was opened at SHU this week by Chancellor of the University Proffessor Robert Winston.

I'm breaking my absence just to post here -

The first sheffield thread lasted 1000 posts but since then threads have been cut off at about 500. The reason this one was so exact is cos i posted the 500th post whilst i was speaking to gothicform on msn. he prompted me to make the 4th thread while he closed the 3rd one.

RE: Bramall Lane - yes, the south stand has looked rather for a while, certainly since i've been here, though i suspect for a couple of decades before that. The south stand is also where the unlikely Casino project would be built so perhaps this is a sign that its definitely not going ahead? The government is likely to put the 1 supercasino in Blackpool after all.

The top floor of St Pauls Place is going up now, and is visble from a number of places outside the city centre. The cladding is onto its third floor now and is starting to warm to me slightly.

The next office block to be built is two floors higher than the current one, so that too will be visible from afar...

...that is until the Nelson House and Arundel Gate blocks (hopefully approved in the near future) will spring up, obscuring the view.

Over the last few days, i've seen people in yellow jackets either side of Furnival Square. I'm hoping this is something to do with the proposal for the Office World site which has been rumoured....

That would be nice, we could do with some more interest in the Charter Square>Moorhead>Furnival Square area. The more proposals the merrier!

You didn't thank me properly for acknowledging your picture dean >(
