Morocco has signed three exploration contracts with three international oil companies from Cyprus, Canada and Malaysia, MAP news agency reported.

The agreements were signed, on the sidelines of the 4th conference "Maghreb & Mediterranean Oil and Gas 2006" in Marrakech, by Amina Benkhadra, general director of the National Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines (ONHYM), with the representatives of Cabre Maroc Ltd (Cyprus), Transatlantic Maroc Ltd (Canada) and Genting Oil Morocco Ltd (Malaysia).

These bring the number of agreements signed with ONHYM in the mining sector to 17 agreements and six reconnaissance contracts in collaboration with 20 partners.

The contracts cover a total area of 237,195,40 km2, providing for four exploration concessions, 85 research permits (14 onshore and 71 offshore) and six onshore reconnaissance authorisations.

The Minister of Energy and Mining, Mohamed Boutaleb, invited on Wednesday international oil companies to benefit from morocco's potentials.

“Morocco, with its 350,000 km2 of sedimentary basins, constitutes an interesting and practically virgin zone for oil drilling,” he underlined.

“Although we are satisfied with the quality of cooperation with the oil companies operating in Morocco at present, our subsoil is still under-tapped,” he added.

25% + Royalties 5% for gas and 10% for oil. That means 30-35% without having to invest a penny.

what has royalties to do with this ?

i dont understand
kn
I have heard some gas sources have been found is there any news on this?
If big quantities of Gas are found can Morocco sell this like other countries are doing?

gulfsands.com

look at theire website.

even if morocco found 8 times what is found in the Kenitra perimetr
they cant export it , its just enough for national consumtion.
How much would Morocco need to export it? It seems that Gas sells good and oil not nowadays.
30 times what they found in Kenitra ,(if the estimates are corect) !

Morocco: Rharb Drilling Programme

London, 12th January, 2015: Gulfsands Petroleum plc
("Gulfsands", the "Group" or the "Company" - AIM: GPX), the oil and gas production, exploration and development company with activities in Syria, Morocco, Tunisia and Colombia is pleased to provide the following
update on drilling activities in Morocco.

Operations Update

Well perforating, completion and clean-up operations have now been concluded on the Dardara Southeast 1 well ("DRC-1") located within the Rharb Centre Permit in Northern Morocco.

Following an initial 3 hour well clean-up flow period, the well was fully unloaded of completion fluids to a 100% gas stream.

During a subsequent 6 hour flow period the well flowed at an average gas rate of 7.1 Million standard cubic feet per day on a 32/64th" choke with a stable well head pressure of 1230 pounds per square inch, and with no associated formation water production or sand production.

The well is to be suspended as a future gas production well and the COFOR drilling rig will move to the Douar Ouled Balkhair ("DOB-1") drilling location, where gas exploration well DOB-1 will be spudded later this month. Operations on the DOB-1 well are expected to take 28 days in total.

Subject to finalisation of arrangements with ONHYM, the company anticipates that the DRC-1 well can be connected to existing local infrastructure so that production of gas for sale can commence in the coming months.

Mahdi Sajjad, the Company's CEO commented:

"We are very pleased with the flow result from well DRC-1, the performance of which is consistent with the apparent excellent quality of the reservoir observed from drilling and wire line log information. We look forward to receiving the results from our next exploration well in the Rharb Centre Permit over the next few weeks.

This release has been approved by Ian Conway, Gulfsands Executive Director Technical and Operations, who has Bachelors and Masters degrees in Physics and has 28 years' of experience in petroleum exploration and management. Mr. Conway has consented to the inclusion of the technical information in this release in the form and context in which it appears.

For further information on the matters referred to in this announcement, please refer to the Company's website www.gulfsands.com
So we have to hope they find better places with more inside it? :)

I don't fully understand the subject that's why i am asking.

you are always welcome !

The new gaz in gharb wells is it enough for the internal consumption at least?
le puits SAH-W1 is enough for a city size of Martil (hab:75 000) for one year suply !
Ah my god that is disappointing
Not at all !

lets hope for more bigger puits in the near future and also some Oil discoveris,
wind farms , Nuke energy , thermal ,
and last but not least Noor 1-2-3-4-5-6 etc..................... 2020 is the Year !
Wait a minute! You said that sah_w1 can supply martil for one year but in a day production or in a year production
every thing that come out from the SAH W1 puits in ONE YEAR, is also ONE YEAR for Martil
(globaly) !
^^

Do you really think that it would be a good idea if Morocco discovers huge amount of oil and gaz?

I prefer that Morocco "discovers" oil/gaz by the year 2030 or after...and not before
Please can you eloberate why ?
Si in plain language that is almost nothing.
thank you for the clarification tetouani
No its not that much , but its also only SAHW-1 puits.

i think we gone discover more ,and thats for sure.
For some countries finding oil/valuable minerals is a good thing (Norway, Canada, Qatar, UAE) and for others a very bad thing (Nigeria, Algeria, Congo, Russia). This difference results from how strong the national institutions and government are and how educated your people are.

Countries with abundant valuable minerals without strong institutions tend to become more closed economies and subsidy many things like food and homes. On the short term this will make your citizens happy. But those nations seem to become less innovative and fall behind. The solution of those governments is to give more subsidies, till the ruler’s notice they start to lack money. In this case most governments tend to invest in security to keep every person that criticizes its policies silent. In case there is a lot of corruption or you have a dictator it's almost a fact that most money stays with the rich people and the government becomes more oppressive towards its citizens. Only exceptions are small countries and countries with extremely large amounts of valuable minerals such as Qatar and Saudi Arabia. Those kinds of countries just can keep subsidizing everything and buy the silence/satisfaction of their citizens. The good exceptions are the good educated countries with strong institutions that are democratic. In Norway for example actually everybody is a millionaire.

Let us be honest to ourselves. Unfortunately in Morocco we still have weak institutions, a lot of corruption, a (good) dictator etc. In this scenario we probably just will become another Algeria or Nigeria. In Morocco I have finally the feeling things improve. Human rights are discussed every day in the media, the problem of education and health is discussed and infrastructure is improving. If we find oil/minerals it would only slow down this process or we'll even go backwards. If we are more democratic and have stronger institutions with little corruption I would be the first one who would want our nation to find oil. Maybe in 2030. Otherwise we only will become lazier and find finance for the security forces and media of our leaders that probably will only try to oppress us.
thanks for clarification,

But i think Morocco dont fall in the same trap as Algeria (with her 200 billion dollar reserves) or Nigeria, and yes Morocco is not Norway.

If we find something under the ground then its limited may be 5 billion barels par example , enough for our domestic needs and investement
to combat unemployment.

I think for Morocco it gone be a mix between Algeria and Norway.

After all we have problems to , with an empty stomage or filled stomage !
But as soon as there is the potential to export then the problems start.
I think we should analyze what kind of problems gone start by who and how.
it could be an interesting subject to discus !
Were should we start... corruption, lack of transperancy, clientisme, conflict of interest, lack of competency of our beloved governing system...

RE;

But that is always the case since independence, with oil or without !

Sure oil or gas are going to give morocco a huge boost but frankly it will also tangle all of its papers. Dsicovery will make people inside raise their needs and thus standards to crazy levels (social chaos), through our economy into RENT. from the outside we are not going to be low profile any more the question would be then: are we really up to that much of struggle.
i strongly believe that every one gets troubles of what he can really handle.
Zid lma zid dgig
we will get oil but every one will be after you to get it , if you dont want to then they will be obliged to make you SPEND.
allahouma tban wa raha walla sh3ir ou lafdiha.
but i wish we can find just what can supply our national needs.
There is nothing wrong if we find , even 50 billion barrel reserve in one day !

we pay the $ 60 billion debt whit it.

for the rest the Gov and people should use their brain.

A question, why isn't the government searching why only foreign companies?
foreign companies are not submited to peopels accusations , and put money
on secret accounts.
May be , but its not corresponding whit the amount they found in the SAH-W1
puits thats only for a city size Martil !

If he want to supply the Kenitra - El Jadida axis , he (Amara) said that we are expecting to find more in the Gharb and Al Jorf by 2021 !
50 times more and not to forget that the company gets 75%
thats 35 billion cubic feet a year , are you sure ?
