One57 is the earliest of a series of supertall residential skyscrapers that are being built along 57th Street, on the southern edge of Central Park.

The best angle of this tower is from the south where you can see its pinstripes. I always thought it was evocative of a shard of ice from central park, but apparently the patterned sides are supposed to evoke a waterfall. Its crown features one of the brightest lanterns on the skyline. Typically white, it is capable of changing colors and is integrated with an art deco design.

The busy pattern of the east-west side ruins this building for me. It almost looks like it belongs to Times Square.
