Sigh....I guess Union Bank Plaza's sheer grand presence will now be altered forever. I suppose this finally ends the uncertainty over what would be built beside it, and it could have been worse.

I did a manual floor count and it looks like the hotel will have 40 floors or so. Perhaps it won't be too tall compared to Union Bank Plaza so the end result may not end up being ugly (unlike that Burgundy Corporate Tower / West of Ayala monstrosity in Makati City..).

ALWAYS THE OPTIMIST

:D Ahhhh, finally Marco Polo comes to Metro Manila after being in Davao and Cebu for so long. I hope its presence will encourage more better streetscaping like in Makati and FBGC. :eek:kay:

Yup, Marco Polo Davao, opened its doors in 1998

Marco Polo Cebu opened in 2006

And now they'll be in Metro Manila.

Galing ng render---it shows the peripheral buildings and how the hotel will look beside other buildings. Most perspectives of residential developments don't.

^^ Here here!!!

Well, Union Bank has only themselves to blame. There was nothing stopping the Aboitiz from purchasing that empty lot and making some kind of podium to ensure their views won`t be blocked. I doubt Ortigas will be reveloping their building and their private parking lot beside it so it looks like it will be the guests of the new Marco Polo Hotel that will be enjoying that breathtaking view of the Meralco compound and QC.

But unfortunately its bad for fans of the UBP architectural presence, especially when seeing Ortigas from QC, especially from EDSA heading towards the EDSA Ortigas flyover. Lets just hope that the end result won`t be bad. As I said earlier, it could be worse but lets hope that the Marco Plaza Hotel won`t be too tall to steal the spotlight of UBP.

^^ Hopefully not too tall. Otherwise, it should be in a different location as it would really really make the Ortigas Skyline in many vantage points really really FUGLY. It really irks me how architecturally stunning buildings in this country such as UBP can easily be degraded due to lack of control and planning (in this case, from the owners of UBP, the owners of Marco Polo, the Ortigas Association and the City of Pasig).

BTW, I passed by the site yesterday and saw the blue fence beside UBP where Marco Polo Hotel is to rise. The gate was open so I can see the site itself but still nothing though, no equipment or digging. But the contractor is Jose Aliling...
