Keppel to expand The Podium mall
Keppel Philippine Properties Inc. (KPPI), a unit of Singapore’s Keppel Land Ltd., said it will expand The Podium mall in Ortigas Center in Pasig by next year, which will double its current size.
“We are expanding the mall as we are encouraged by the strong [Gross Domestic Product] growth rate of the Philippines,” KPPI Chairman Linson Lim Soon Kooi said.
Kooi said SM Keppel Land has already hired an architect that will design the master plan for the expanded mall, which has a current leasable size of about 20,000 square meters. He said the company is adding an additional 22,000 sq m.
“For the design of the mall, we expect to complete this year and we expect to commence construction by next year,” he said.
In 2011, Banco de Oro Unibank (BDO), the banking unit of SM Group, said it signed a deal with Keppel for the redevelopment of the said mall into a comprehensive commercial complex. It will contain an office tower for business development outsourcing offices, the country’s largest bank, to house some of its businesses.
