Until this Covid pandemic is under full control with vaccines etc, which may take up to 2-3 years, I think any large development, be it residential or office will be 'on hold'. I can't see the 180m 65 Federal St development or the 159m M+L [Food Alley] going ahead for some time. At least Seascape, at 187m and Voco at 135m, are up and running. The 51 Albert St. Indigo 161m development appears to be going ahead with good pre-sales. As for the NDG 209m development, who knows on that one.

Given the lead in times for these projects you’d assume that developers are factoring in the return to whatever normality will be, in their planning. We’ve got the Women’s Football World Cup, one of the biggest sporting events on the global calendar in 2023. Anyone who was planning on building a hotel will want to be ready for that.

A boutique hotel within the skyscraper, The Pacifica, is placed on ice because of the Covid border closure

The Melbourne-based developers of New Zealand’s tallest apartment development have placed the boutique hotel development within it on ice because of Covid-19’s closure of New Zealand’s borders to visitors and tourists. Developers Hengyi Pacific said the 41-room Auckland hotel on levels one to six of luxury apartment development, The Pacifica, was on hold. The hotel was now what the real estate industry calls a “warm shell”, which means it has been minimally fitted out with services like ceilings, plumbing, lighting and ventilation. “It is on hold at the moment, and we are reviewing our options. In light of the Covid environment it’s not prudent to be investing significant amounts in a hotel fit-out with uncertainty around the time of when borders and things will be open,” Hengyi director Liz Scott said.

Oh well, at least the outside looks finished more or less.

Apologies for not placing this where it should be, but it appeared yesterday on ArchDaily & I cannot find a thread for The Pacifica Tower/s so I'll drop it here.

Set to be one of the tallest towers in Auckland at 178.65 meters, The Pacifica will complement the existing skyline of Auckland’s central business district. Designed by Plus Architecture, the towerallows for a deep connection and interaction at every level”, and highlights a significant shift in Auckland’s housing approach.

While the city has only recently begun embracing the concept of inner-city apartment living, the Pacifica comes as a pioneering project, changing Auckland’s housing demographics and setting a new benchmark for apartment living.

Considering first the impact on the city skyline and the relationship the tower would eventually have with Waitemata Harbour, Plus Architecture imagined an intervention that will integrate existing urban elements in close proximity to the site. In fact, the design incorporates and celebrates “the adjoining laneways, the former Taspac House, a 1920’s office building by a previous owner and over which The Pacifica will cantilever once complete; and finally, the neighboring ‘Achilles House’, a heritage-listed building typical of the many warehouse-style offices erected in the 20th century”.

The four main interface points of the site rise from the ground floor and twist to take the form of a traditional Maori Pikorua, symbolizing togetherness. Reaching upper levels, the mass takes on a shifting glass façade that mirrors the waters of the Waitemata Harbour. Featuring 273 apartments, the highrise includes enclosed winter gardens above the 26th floor. On the lower levels, The Pacifica offers a variety of commercial amenities, and a new laneway helps to activate the site, encouraging pedestrian traffic.
