For the very first time since its creation, the Palarong Pambansa will be hosted by the Province of Laguna on May 5 to May 10, 2014 at the Laguna Sports Complex at Barangay Bubukal, Sta. Cruz, Laguna.

Palarong Pambansa is the annual sporting event involving student-athletes from all over the country, which is organized and governed by the Department of Education. Back then, it was known as the Bureau of Public Schools – Interscholastic Athletics Association Games (BPISAA). Palarong Pambansa is stipulated in the provision of the 1987 Philippine Constitution Article XIV, Section 19. The first game was held in Manila in 1948.

Pacquiao to lead Palarong Pambansa opening ceremony

Filipino boxing champ and Sarangani Rep. Emmanuel "Manny" Pacquiao will lead a star-studded opening ceremony of the Palarong Pambansa in Laguna next Monday, state-run Philippines News Agency reported Wednesday.

The PNA report said Pacquiao will join Filipino Winter Olympian Michael Martinez, actor and former Palaro swimmer Enchong Dy, basketball star James Yap and track and field team captain Jericho Estregan in the torch lighting.
