- mentioned in 1295, town laws since 1340
- The Green gate and the Chateaux dominate town skyline
- The Perstyn Square, town market centre
- nice and pleasant old town, but quite small as for such size of town
- national technical monument of The Automatic Mills
- a modern ČEZ Arena closed to town centre (capacity for 10 194)
- Czech Top Hockey League club with highest average attendance (over 9 k)
- the oldest and most famous steeplechase run of Velká Pardubická in continental Europe since 1874
- traditional speedway Golden Helmet Contest, since 1929
