MANILA - It appears the Mall of Asia complex -- already one of the largest shopping districts in the world -- is not big enough for Henry Sy, as one of his property development companies wants to reclaim more land from Manila Bay.

In a public notice, Pasay City public-private partnership committee chairman Dennis Bernardo Acorda said the local government unit (LGU) received an unsolicited proposal from SM Land Inc for a joint venture that would reclaim and develop 300 hectares of land at the western part of the city.

The project, which is estimated to cost P54.5 billion, includes the following components:

- Proponent will undertake and fully finance the project, including the costs of all necessary permits and clearances from government agencies and the expenses to comply with all the government and legal requirements;

- The government, through the Philippine Reclamation Authority, will get at least 153 hectares or 51 percent of the area that would be reclaimed, including roads and open spaces; and

- The project would be completed within seven years from the LGU's issuance of the notice to proceed.

The Henry Sy-led property developer SM Land has offered to reclaim a 300 hectare property along Manila Bay in Pasay City for P54.5 billion.

According to the Pasay City government, SM Land submitted an unsolicited proposal to the Public Private Partnership Selection Committee, where the company offered to fully finance the reclamation and development of the 300 hectare foreshore and onshore areas of Manila Bay, located in the western part of Pasay City.

SM's investment relations officer Cora Guidote on Wednesday confirmed the reclamation proposal.
