Patagonia (Chili and Argentina) trip 2017

Patagonia trip 2017

Last year I also went on holiday to Chili and Argentina with the main focus on the Patagonia region of both countries.
My holiday of 26 days and two countries had this route:

Santiago – Pucon - San Martin de los Andes – Bariloche - Puerto Madryn – Ushuaia - Punta Arenas - Torres del Paine - El Calafate (glaciers) - El Chalten (Fitz Roy) - Buenos Aires.

The pics I made in this thread are with my mobile (S6 edge) and with my Nikon D3100 with a 18-200mm lens.

Santiago (de Chile)
After a long flight with KLM (with a small stop in Buenos Aires) we finaly arrive in the capital of Chili; Santiago
Middle of summer so sunny and pretty warm weather in the city itself (35 Celcius)
After droping our stuff at the hotel and little freshin up we go into the city to go for a nice place to have lunch!

1.
We cross the river on our way to the Bellavista district.

2.
A great area with enough bars/restaurants/shop. :eek:kay:

3.
After lunch on our way toward the Plaza de Armas.

4.
Plaza de Armas.

5.
Old and new.

6.
In the city you can still find enough old and beautifull buildings.

7.
At the Neptune fountain at the bottow of Cerro Santa Lucía and Hidalgo castle.

8.
On this smaller hill, in the middle of town, you allready have some nice views of the city.

16.
Fountain in the evening.

The day after I had a nice day for myself walking in the city and visiting sites.
At other places on this grouptrip you are really with the group to visit things and stuff but the cities I really like to walk on my own...going left, right, left again etc ;)
Exploring at own pace and time the city.
First thing to go to this morning is South America's supertall; Costanera Center/ Gran Torre Santiago with height of 300m.

17.
But en route looking at other buildings. Nice one this.

18.
The streets here were pretty green must say.

19.
The tower is coming in sight.

20.
Towerflower :D

21.
300m glass. :drewl:

Bought an admission ticket below in the mall. You can go up for 10000 Chilean peso’s.

22.
With all that glass and sun it was sometimes bit challenging taking pictures :D

23.
View along the river and the San Cristobal hill.

24.
This city is huge...

But the paths weren't clearly marked everywhere and a whole part was also very slippery so returned back down again.
After lunch I took the funicular up the hill.

44.
And that delivers some very very nice views!

Very interesting to see Santiago. My son has a Chilean girlfriend he met whilst in Australia - and will be visiting her in Santiago later this year. I believe it has excellent public transport?

Pucon

Pucon

After a comfortable trip with the nightbus we arrive in the morning in Pucon.
From the busstation in Pucon we are transported to our hotels by little busses.
Pucon itself is situated near the still active Villarica vulcano (2847m). The last bigger eruption was in 2015.

74.
In the morning we have a good view of the vulcano from the towncenter.

In the afternoon we go on a nice hike towards some lakes in the Huerquehue National Park.

75.
At the entrance of the park.

76.

77.
Green surroundings. The hike itself was on higher parts sometimes a bit challeging with steep and muddy parts!

78.
As we are getting higher we do get some very great views of the surrounding area!

79.
Zoom in towards the summit of the vulcano.

80.
Later on we arrive at a smal waterfall.

81.
Lakes, green hills and that active vulcano; picture perfect!

82.
Time for a snack and drinks :D

83.
Roots.

84.
We look at the summit and see some smoke rising up.

85.
Beautifull clear lakes.

86.

87.
Arriving at the next lake.

88.
Great weather for a nice hike. Water itself was a bit too cold to dive in ;)

Pucon part 2

Pucon - part 2

The day after a few member go up the volcano.
I stay in the village itself, because on this holiday we will have enough action yet to come ;)
I enjoy the nice weather and there was also a triathlon on this day in and around Pucon.

89.
First walking a bit around in the village itself.

90.
Church and volcano.

91.
Wooden statue of the natives.

92.
At the lake by Pucon and offcourse Villarica vulcano is also present ;)

93.
Its plume of smoke was bigger then yesterday... ;)

94.

95.
During the triathlon number 1-2-3 always had somebody with them on a bike...so easy for us spectators.

96.
We have been warned ;) :D

97.
Sports and vulcano.

98.
The Chilean people went crazy when she passed along the route. At the end she even went to first place so it was fiesta! :D

99.
Some are still on their way after 5 hours..

the day after we go for the first time to the border and enter Argentina. Stamp 2 and 3 in the pasport ;)
In Chili the road was pretty good but in Argentina it was pretty bad. Also the traffic jam towards Chili was huge and we had a easy drive on the border. :dunno:

Both borders lay in the shadow of the big Lanin vulcano (the border runs over it btw) with a height of 3747m.

100.
Nice cloud around the summit.

101.
Like it had a hat! :D

102.
Enough snow and ice on the summit.

After passing the border we are in Argentina and we go onwards towards the town of San Martín de los Andes.
