The City Of Cockburn (co burn) has put forward its proposal for the new West Australian Stadium. They came out with all the guns; it has the ability to re-configure the stadium seating for AFL/ Cricket and Soccer and Rugby and will have a capacity of 70,000 seats making it Australia’s third largest Stadium.

The state government has put forward 500million dollars for a new 55,000 Seat stadium in WA. The task force set up has wanted it, near the CBD but land is hard to find and the PCC council is yet to put forward a opposing stadium, and Subiaco CC a (suburb near the city) were our current largest stadium (42,000) has limited room to expand, strict controls on times that events can be held and it yet to put forward a opposing plan.

Unless there is a opposing stadium in the city. With 70,000 seats I want this to be built.

The decision has been made - the new stadium will not host the Ashes Test. :(

with the announcement that Ed Sheran will be the first event at the new stadium, we have some new details about seating.

Speaking of Ed Sheeran, to the best of my knowledge these are the first seating charts for the venue with block numbers etc...

Does anyone have anymore information regarding this and the potential to have to limit crowds until this footbridge is completed?

It's a bit of a shambles but as far as I understand it is only affecting the capacity of certain early events like an Ed Sheeran concert because of the time of day (weeknight evening) potentially overloading the trainline or not enough train drivers etc without the footbridge.

Almost certain an early afternoon AFL match on the weekend will manage the crowds without the bridge finished.
Still it's pretty rubbish, the Bridge should have been finished already, which has probably delayed other elements.

Having just attended the IAAF World Athletics Championships in London a thought occurred to me the this stadium would be an absolute winner to host a future championship.

I don't know if the field dimensions would allow enough space but I'm sure a stadium of this size could accommodate the requirements.

Australia have never hosted the Athletics Championships, Perth Stadium would be the ultimate venue for what I'd guess be a very well attended event.

Perth 2023? What do you think?

Athletics

  • Capable of hosting international athletics events, such as the IAAF World Championships and meets Commonwealth Games requirements.
  • Removable concrete plats on the lower bowl to facilitate reconfiguration into athletics mode.
  • 60,000 seating capacity.
  • Media facilities with the capability to accommodate an increased contingent for international events.

Definitely capable of hosting.

Athletics mode requires the removal of 10 rows on the ground tier's eastern end. There is a void under these seating plates for ease of transition. It will mean many seats in the eastern end will have variable obstructed sight-line views of the outer lanes coming around the bend but it is probably no worse than when the MCG removed seating to host 2006 Commonwealth games Athletics, or the Montreal Olympic Stadium in Athletics mode.

I love how flexible this stadium is. Can host football, cricket, athletic and concerts with absolute ease.

Granted probably not the most ideal for football, but still should be better than stadiums with tracks already installed.
