Pescara plans new stadium

PESCARA -- June 13, 2017. "In previous months, we have pushed for the redevelopment of old Stadio Adriatico, but the Superintendence for Cultural Heritage has put some constraints on the stadium. So we had to abandon such idea and we chose to start another project: the construction of a new stadium within a larger plan that involves the creation of a sports village" said Pescara Mayor. "A new stadium in line with UEFA standards, and with no athletic track" he added.

"We have followed a path to redevelop the old city stadium, but we have realized that there are some problems for the realization of that project. So it came out of the idea to build a new stadium. Pescara Calcio (the local football team) and the University agreed with our proposal. However, this would allow the old Stadio Adriatico to be used for other purposes" said the Councilor for Public Works.

The new stadium should be built between the beach and the Appennines, along the Pescara Sud bypass, linked with the national highway and the railway network.

New stadium, whose official name is "Pescara Arena", was presented today at Marina di Pescara touristic port. Pescara Arena was conceived to be open 7 days on 7 and it will be enterely financed by private investors.

The project, which spans over a surface of 118,000 sqm, is surrounded by greenery and public transports (bus, train stations are near the stadium). It comprises a 20,700-seater covered arena with sky and ground boxes; retail and food court; a covered plaza of 4,000 sqm; a congress centre and other areas dedicated to host events; 1,600 parkings. The project is LEED Gold-Certified.

"It is a beautiful project and it should encourage other teams. Juventus was the first to have a property stadium, then other clubs such as Reggiana, Udinese and Frosinone. And soon we'll have new stadiums in Rome and Bergamo. I cannot imagine the future of Italian football without state-of-the-art stadiums. Congratulations to Pescara Calcio" said Giovanni Malagò, President of Italian National Olympic Committee.

"This is a shared project: our stadium is for everyone, a stadium for an united Abruzzo. We hope to inaugurate it in 2020 or 2021. Now we'll go through the bureaucratic process for its approval" said Daniele Sebastiani, President of Pescara Calcio.

The City Authority approved the masterplan of Pescara Sud area. It's a fundamental burocratic step towards the approbation of new Pescara Arena.
