Thailand plans Phuket Airport rail link

THE Thailand Transport Ministry is seeking cabinet approval for a 60km, Baht 25bn ($US 701m) railway linking Phuket International Airport to the Chalong intersection

If built the route would have a top speed of 100km/h and 23 stations. It could be opened by 2021 should a feasibility study prove successful. Funding is likely to be provided by a public-private partnership, and companies in China, Korea and Europe are said to have expressed interest in the project

anyone knows if the Phuket light rail project is moving along ? or had it been stalled because of the enormous investments/approval process happening in Bangkok ?

Phuket Light Rail is under Environment Impact Assessment (EIA), and they are revising the design to fit with the new terminal of Phuket International Airport.

OTP has set the date for construction of both Phuket Light Rail and Hat Yai monorail to begin construction in 2018 and open for service in 2021, while Khon Kaen light rail is expected to begin in 2017.
