Please post pictures of Sri Lanka here, such as nature shots and lesser known cities.
That was on the Daily News'Saptha Kanya', (Seven Virgins) is a mountain range close to Hatton, which shot into fame in 1974 when an Indonesia bound plane carrying passengers from Mecca crashed killing all.
This mountain range was called Achchimale, which meant five mountains. The other two mountains are located further away from the five. It was after the plane crash the mountains came to be called 'Saptha Kanya' because of the beauty of the surrounding area of the mountain range.
Behind 'Saptha Kanya' mountain range lies Sri Pada mountain peak ,which can be seen from the peaks of Saptha Kanya.
The ancient route to Sri Pada was from the side of this mountain range. The Sri Lanakn visitors attracted to this place mainly due to the religious and cultural resons.
There are ruins of Ambalamas and Bodhi trees belonging to the days of King Nissankamalla of Polonnaruwa who was reputed to have climbed Sri Pada.
The peaks that jut out towards the sky are compared to virgins because of the nature's beauty hiding with its clouds the secrets of wonder and mystery.
