Pittsburgh's North Side.

wow, nice tour. the row home communities look nice, very Baltimoreish, very nice. Hope they continue to clean up these neighborhoods and preserve them.

hero, you should do some pics of the SOuthside....I actually never been to either side as I stay in my little university niche....lol.

The Southside of Pittsburgh is largely post 1950's suburban neighborhood isn't it?

I like the trees, lots of neighborhoods with rows don't have them, I think it looks great.

Not even close. The South Side is mostly late 1800's row/townhouses, with a major 20 block commercial strip as it's anchor. I've posted many pics before, but I'll do some more.

Really? From Google-Earth the homes look further apart and the roads more "cul-de-sac oriented) the further south you head in the city. Is it kind of like Boston how the "South end' is really way up in the northern 3rd of the city?

You are mistaking the South Side with the South Hills. South Side is a particular neighborhood, while the South Hills is a large general area. The South Side is located on the flood plain of the Monongahela River's south bank, stretching from opposite the Point, to Beck's Run. The north face of the hillside that rises above the South Side is called the South Side Slopes. Everything south of this is considered the South Hills. (Although suburbanites tend to only consider the suburban sections to be part of the South Hills, the term was actually coined to describe the original southern suburbs built during the latter third of the 19th Century. Most of these are now part of Pittsburgh). The terrain of the South Hills is extremely rugged, allowing no consitant grid. Thus the spaghetti roads. These areas have a very different feel than suburbs in most other cities.

I see excatly the area you are talking about now. WOW. it doese look dense. I'ts right on the river on a little sliver of land kind of accross form downtown right? I'd love to see some ground level pics of that area.
