So this was announced just recently in Cityscape Qatar:

Doha, Qatar - 03 June 2014: Details of the luxury, lifestyle and leisure destination Place Vendôme, under development in Qatar's emerging Lusail City, were unveiled today at a press conference held at Cityscape Qatar 2014. The total construction area of close to 800,000m² is expected to cost QR5 billion and will feature retail, leisure, entertainment and luxury spaces, packaged into a one-stop family destination by the sea. The project is being realized by United Developers , led by local investors with expertise in retail, real estate, construction and contracting.
The Place Vendôme project matches the ambition of the State of Qatar, envisioned and realized by the commitment of United Developers to the future. The company is combining world-class standards for building and implementing the project in Qatar using local talent and proficiency. The development will be a groundbreaking example of the entrepreneurship, vision and energy of Qatari commitment to the nation's development, and will provide a lasting attraction for citizens, residents and visitors in the years ahead,

Situated 11km from the center of Doha, the mixed-use development will host two five-star hotels, serviced apartments, up to 400 different retail outlets, a central entertainment component showcasing permanent attractions, technologically advanced installations and special events. In addition, the retail portion of the development will boast an exclusive section dedicated to unrivaled luxury featuring the most elite brands. Place Vendôme is set to become a new destination for the region, slated for opening in the third quarter of 2017.

"Place Vendôme will be the new center of attraction for residents and visitors seeking a combination of varied entertainment and retail choices in one location. Rising in parallel with the infrastructure in Lusail City, this project will be served by new roads, public transportation, parks and marinas by the date of completion," said Sean Kelly, Project Director for Place Vendôme. "Project funding is in place and the necessary approvals have been secured to pave the way for continued progress on the development."
Drawing inspiration from the Parisian district of the same name, Place Vendôme will be reminiscent of the famous high-end shopping street in Paris, Rue de la Paix, of which Place Vendôme is the starting point. The architecture is intended to radiate luxury and extravagance while conveying a touch of cultural and artistic feel. The development will feature a canal running through it directly from the sea, seamlessly drawing together the surrounding environment to provide visitors a unique experience.

Place Vendôme is a project aligned with the pillars of Qatar National Vision 2030. It reflects the owners' commitment to Qatar's economic diversification as well as human and social development through the opportunities and jobs that the development will create during construction and upon completion.
Additionally, as Lusail City is set to host the stadium for the opening and closing of the 2022 FIFA World Cup™, the project will cater to the needs and desires of visitors by providing access to wide number of services, from accommodation to entertainment with the highest levels of convenience."

There's only a few photos that I could find so far, but from the model I saw at Cityscape it really looks amazing. And 400 different retail outlets is huge, as much as Mall of Qatar!

Also, I read somewhere that excavation has already started and about 20% is completed

There are going to be 3 Villagios now:

1. Villagio
2. Al-Emadi Markiya Development
4. This one

I dont like themed malls. And it looks to be one story! While I like the idea, I do not like the design. These places make me feel bored quickly.

I'm also not a big fan of themed malls. but if they were to be built, can't they find a different style other than classical European?!
i think we have earlier renders for this one in Lusail thread.

it seems that they all target high-end and luxurious brands. doesn't really match with the majority of the residents of Qatar. but they must have made their own studies. !! kefhum!

Qatar Visionary

The only thing that I have some conservation about is that Qatar is only abbreviated in 1 City !

The government should extend the development to realize different cities (existed or newly developed) to decentralize people among the whole country and to lessen the population boom in Doha metropolitan ! Lusail ( is often called Doha-North ! )

I am still a big fan of Doha Skyline !

Greetings from Abu Dhabi

i'm not against a themed mall. but we need another theme! what i mind is another italian themed mall !
I don't like another Villagio. We already have Villagio, Emadi mall, and THIS. We need an ultra modern mall like the Avenues in Kuwait.

We need to stop copying and glorifying other countries and civilizations' architecture and build on ours instead. Musherib was a step forward. This projects took us 3 steps back in terms of architecture.

Exactly. I think and Ive said it before that malls should be modern, reflect this century; steel, glass, marble, ultra-modern architecture is all global and is not a denomination of a certain country.

They think by making it Parisian and branding it as Vendome, it will be considered a marketing success.

I love modern architecture. Steel, glass, marble, and specially limestone, I wish they build more of it here in Qatar as long as it's modern and Qatari at the same time.

This is a project/architectural page buddy where people share updates, thoughts, and opinions. If you have been following my posts, you would have known what I like and do not like.

I love modern designs such as Hamad International Airport, Musheirab, QF-HQ and the University City buildings and of course the grand Lusail concept. But I am sure that you will agree with me, that the last thing Qatar needs is a cheesy replica (name and theme) of an existing Paris neighbourhood http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Place_Vendôme in the middle of the highly anticipated Lusial.

With regards to your accusations, no I do not get paid; However, if you are ever interested in getting paid for writing comments, then you should start by spelling your own name correctly

no need for name calling here people. as most of you have said already, we don't need this one. yet another themed mall. and I also agree, modern design would've been a better choice. although we have few under construction. mall of qatar, northgate and bin twar mall.
