Time to restructure oil PSUs, says PM

THE Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, on Sunday said the Government was looking at the possibility of restructuring of the oil PSUs on a priority basis, with a view to making them globally competitive.

Power Grid Corp acquires transmission company in Rajasthan

New Delhi: State-owned Power Grid Corporation on Thursday said it has acquired Bikaner-II Bhiwadi Transco Ltd (BBTL) which would implement a power transmission project. "Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd, pursuant to its selection as the successful bidder under tariff based competitive bidding, has on 25.03.2021 acquired BBTL," it said in a regulatory filing.

BBTL is the project SPV to establish transmission system strengthening scheme for evacuation of power from solar energy zones in Rajasthan (8.1 GW) under Phase-II, on build, own, operate and maintain (BOOM) basis from the bid process coordinator - PFC Consulting, it added.

Power Grid to acquire Jaiprakash Power's 74 per cent stake in transmission JV

New Delhi: Transmission utility Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (Powergrid) is set to acquire 74 per cent stake in Jaypee Powergrid Ltd-JV (JPL) for an undisclosed amount.

The company on Monday signed a share purchase agreement with Jaiprakash Power Ventures Ltd (JPVL) that will allow it to take full control of the joint venture. Post acquisition, JPL will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Powergrid.

Powergrid, which currently holds 26 per cent equity in JPL, has developed a 214 km long EHV power transmission project to evacuate power from Karcham-Wangtoo project in Himachal Pradesh.

The power transmitted is meant for distribution and consumption in states of Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan

State-run Power Grid Corporation on Tuesday said it has acquired Ramgarh New Transmission Limited (RNTL), which it has won in a tariff-based competitive bidding.

Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL), pursuant to its selection as the successful bidder under tariff-based competitive bidding, has on March 9, 2021 acquired Ramgarh New Transmission Ltd (RNTL), the Project SPV (special purpose vehicle) to establish transmission system strengthening scheme for evacuation of power from solar energy zones in Rajasthan (8.1 GW), a BSE filing said.

Now the PGCIL owns 100 per cent equity in the RNTL. It shall be engaged in the business of transmission of Power. The transmission system (RNTL) comprises establishment of a new 400/220kV Substation, 400kV DIC Transmission lines and associated Substation extension works in Rajasthan. The transmission system is an Inter State Transmission System Project and is to be completed in 18 months.

Beginning 2023, India to start building nuclear power plants in "Fleet Mode".


The Centre had approved construction of 10 indigenously developed pressurised heavy water reactors (PHWR) of 700 MW each in June 2017. The ten PHWRs will be built at a cost of Rs 1.05 lakh crore. Under the fleet mode, a nuclear power plant is expected to be built over a period of five years from the first pour of concrete. We can expect 7GW in 5 years from Nuclear power plants.
