Predictions for 2018

I've seen one poster mention creating a predictions thread now for 2018 now that we are approaching year end, so I thought I would take the plunge.

I'm hoping to see a lot of the schemes we are already aware of come to fruition such as the YEP site, mustard wharf, symons house etc

I'd like to see progress on the CEG south bank master plan, whilst we may have some plans submitted I expect we will see no actual movement on the ground. Also expect there to be no movement on the later stages of bridge street and wouldn't be surprised if the hotel gets canned somehow after 'officially' breaking ground a couple of months ago. I also predict we won't see anything for VG phase two.

On a more positive front I'm hoping we may see a surprise tall proposed for the sovereign square plot and still crossing my fingers for movement on Hume house. I also can't wait to see things move again on the woodhouse lane site recently acquired by vita.

This is what we have right now.

Definitely want the surprise tall in Sovereign Square, i’d be really surprised if we don’t see something.

I also want to see some concrete plans for First White Cloth Hall - the only thing i’ve seen so far is a blurry image the Civic Trust posted but I think it’s even a photo of another scheme!
I predict NO Katy Perry gig at FDA in 2018 or any year after that, Di Livio has jinxed it for us devoted fans the swine :bash:
My Wish List.
Majestic
Tower Works
City Square House
4 Wellington Place
2 Sovereign Square

Majestic has already started and 4WP is certainly possible but I think the other 3 are dead - at least at present.
Same as the others but adding on Granary Wharf PRS. Really think that's going to see some movement soon.

Hilton bridge Street will probably start soon but there's one last discharge waiting for approval.

I'd love to see something (anything) to do with city square house. Maybe the ever growing shortage of office space in the city centre will motivate something.

2 sovereign square must be getting close to being revealed. The site was under offer almost a year ago now and I think the silence could be a good sign. Maybe something big coming.
We’ll see a boom of PRS developments start on site, and we’ll easily hit 20 in the crane count...

Also, City Square House please :)
Any link back to 2017 thread? Always good to quote your last year predictions see how they came along...
Think I might just recycle my predictions from last year!

I also think we'll see something get started on the Wellington Street plot opposite the old YEP, Bridge House I think it was called before being flattened.

One of the big unknowns will be City Reach, such a big and impressive scheme, would love that to get going. If we can get one or two PRS scheme's on site I think others will follow in a rush.
I think we'll finally see some plans for part of phase 2 of Victoria Gate, but can see the site being split into parts. We should get planning in for part of the Vastint site, but probably no start. More PRS schemes should see a start, such as Mustard Wharf and Monkbridge, hope we get the Latitude residential element make a start too.

Unfortunately I think Tower Works will go back to the drawing board as things really aren't looking good for Carillion. It should be the year that the South Bank really takes off, but I think it's going to be a mixed bag of schemes going quiet and some starting.

Will you buy me a ticket too? We can wear our official Katy Perry fan club t-shirts with the hashtag on the back, #seeItoldyoushedcometoleedseventually :cheers:

Depressing the amount of stuff that hasn't gone ahead.
Also interesting to see how many predictions for starts have taken longer than a year to happen, seems like a lot of schemes in Leeds take longer than we anticipate to get off the ground!
Can't believe it's been a year since the last one of these threads!

I'm hoping for some more concrete details, and timescales from the Vastint development, and I know the focus is always on big developments, but I'm keen to see some smaller and currently unused older buildings in the South Bank area get a new lease of life (thinking Clarence House, Crown Hotel and the building between that and Sheaf Street Cafeteria - did see some apparently survey work being done on that recently)

I know this is just small stuff, but done up nicely the older stuff can really bring up and area and add a lot of character.

I was thinking of this during the Chancellor’s budget speech.

Some of our forumers have complained about the curse of Leeds, which saw large numbers of planning applications never coming to fruition. It has been blamed, among other causes, on a silly newspaper article by Maxwell Hutchinson, the ineptitude of the city’s planning department, and the perceived anti-development prejudices of some councillors.

None of those who made these assertions was ever able to back their theories with hard facts. So it was interesting to hear Mr Hammond today announce a review into why permitted developments are not going forward. He also said that London has more than 200,000 permitted housing units unbuilt. I think perhaps our problems are not so bad, or unique, as some thought.

After another feasibility study, Leeds is to announce that it is breaking away from the UK and will become totally independent - in the hope, rather than expectation, that the European City of Culture bid can be resurrected and that the city will be successful (just seen several pink pigs flying past the window)
