This has much potential and will be kept busy if the KZN Sharks Board press ahead with plans for a new facility that incorporates a bigger better museum and a maritime college. Current plans valued around R1billion.

The grassed empty land towards the homes in the pic is where the Premier Hotel will be built. Gathering by the small site and that it is zoned for 10F that we could have a sizable height on this development. The new Gateway Private Hospital is right behind it.

SA hotel chain announces expansion plans

Premier Hotels and Resorts International announced plans for further expansion in South Africa at its Gala Dinner on Saturday, at East London International Convention Centre celebrating 25 years.

Samuel Nassimov, MD of Premier Hotels and Resorts, said there are plans to add another three Premier properties within the next five years. The three additional hotels are planned for the areas of Umhlanga, Fourways and Sandton.

A site has already been acquired for the Umhlanga property and construction is expected to begin early 2017.

Details of Premier's repositioning were also revealed at the gala dinner. “We would like to sub-brand to get the fair share of the market because right now we offer full service, three of four star hotels,” said Nassimov.

Each of the sub-brands, Splendid Inn, Express Inn, Premier Resort and East London International Convention Centre, were rebranded with a different colour to represent the different market segmentation.

Premier’s Pinetown, Port Edward and King David hotels will all be rebranded under the Splendid Inn brand.

After waiting what feels like forever, tenders have been awarded on this one in the past month.

So seems this is now fully underway. And instead of one hotel, they are developing two hotels with a total capacity of 318 rooms.

But Nassimov is keen to stress that the project he is most excited about is, indeed, their new property in Umhlanga. By the time this edition of the magazine is in circulation, the ground on this property is likely to have been broken already with the development of two hotels.

The one will be a 128-room 4+ star hotel with a pool, parking area, bar and a conference centre, which will be able to host between 400-500 delegates.

The other will be a 3-star hotel with around 190 rooms and a conference centre, which will be able to host 415 delegates.
