Dubai: Dubai Sports City (DSC) on Thursday said, it has appointed NSCC as the enabling works contractor for the mega project's retail development - Arena Mall.
NSCC are pioneers in foundation and marine works, and regional leaders in the design and construction of foundation engineering solutions. NSCC was the first company to introduce piled foundations to the UAE in the early 1970s.
The duration of the construction enabling works will take approximately seven months to complete and includes site preparation, shoring works, and the excavation of 1.1 million cubic metres of dirt. Enabling work on Arena Mall will begin within four weeks.
Excavation and shoring are the initial steps required to construct the three basement levels of the Arena Mall complex which will house over 7,000 car parks, exceeding regional shopping centre standards.
Arena Mall, the largest retail destination within Dubai Sports City, will be directly linked to the 25,000-seat cricket and events stadium, and the 10,000-seat multi-purpose indoor stadium and occupies a prominent location within the development.
Comprising approximately 1.4 million square feet of gross leasable area, the mall will be anchored by a 140,000 square feet hypermarket, an interactive and educational family entertainment centre, 12 screen cinemas, two food courts and an array of over 300 fashion, convenience, family and leisure destination stores.
DSC, the cornerstone project of Dubailand, is a $4 billion, 50 million square feet mixed-use development which will be the world's first integrated purpose-built sports city.
The development will be built around five major sports venues: a multi-purpose outdoor stadium, multi-purpose indoor arena, cricket stadium, field hockey stadium, and a 72-par, 18-hole championship golf course designed by South African star Ernie Els. Dubai Sports City is set for completion in 2010.

Selected contractors have been invited to express interest in the main construction package for the Arena Mall shopping centre at Dubai Sports City.
The contract involves the construction of a five-level structure with three basement parking levels with 3,000 spaces and two levels of shops with 140,000 square-metres of gross leaseable area.
It will have a 14,000 square-metre hypermarket, 300 stores and a 12-screen cinema.
The built-up area for the parking is 290,000 square metres and the built-up area for the shopping mall is 170,000 square metres.
The local NSCC was awarded the enabling works contract in July. The seven-month contract involves site preparation, shoring works and the excavation of 1.1 million cubic metres of material for the three-level parking basement.
Local developer Dubai Sports City is the client (MEED 10:7:08).
There was an announcement in Gulf News recently that Carrefour would be one of the anchor stores at the arena mall. Hope this project does not fall through in the current crisis. It's a nice convenient location from Motor City where I plan to move in a few months .
